About this deal

A. Barnes’ Dead Silence, a SF horror novel in which a woman and her crew board a decades-lost luxury cruiser and find the wreckage of a nightmare that hasn't yet ended. Set in 2149, it's very much the beginning days of space exploration and there isn't a lot of futuristic tech that one needs to worry about. It reminds me of the movie Ghost Ship from 2002 that gave me nightmares for weeks except, you know, in space. now act like a teenage girl, then woman up be brave, conquer all, until she needs a hug, but don't touch her, unless she wants you too, but run away once you do.

Once aboard the ship they discovered that the guests and crew had died in a variety of gruesome ways. Dead Silence is convincingly carried and narrated by central character Claire Kovalik, who is damaged, unpredictable and blessed with a fascinating childhood backstory which gradually unpeels as the plot moves on. My choice out here among the stars, the distant glimmering planets, and the absolute silence of space. Although it is set in space, the value of salvaging the most famous spaceship in history is a fascinating idea and the characters rightfully spend some page time on discussing this and the monetary value of discovering a vessel as unique as the Titanic or the Marie Celeste.Plot was straight-forward, and if there was an expected Big Reveal, Barnes still left an additional trick up her sleeve. In the end, never having to hear her utter another whoa is me diatribe was more worth it to me than resolving the mystery at the crux of this book. A. Barnes’ Dead Silence, a SF horror novel in which a woman and her crew board a A. Barnes ended up being a huge letdown after all the reviews saying how scary it is, creepy, and being dubbed “the ultimate haunted house story in space” by critics. The story was an incredible and unique premise but MY GOODNESS the repeated mentions of a male characters chest every couple of minutes had me wanting to tear my hair out.

I have to say up until that point, Dead Silence was pretty much exactly what I’d expected and wanted, as Claire and her crew explored the haunted ship filled with the dead.Claire must fight to hold on to her sanity and find out what really happened on the Aurora before she and her crew meet the same ghastly fate. p>The data controller is Headline Publishing Group Limited. However, there is also a dash of humor and a blossoming love, both of which work to balance out the constant sense of dread and impending doom as well as the presence of bloody ghosts, including some from each crew member’s own past. I don’t usually branch out into horror, but Alien has proved that I can enjoy a good haunted house in space, and when Dead Silence by S.

Because this book is set on a spaceship and it has a mystery of what actually happened to the people on this spaceship… I loved it. Although I did enjoy these sequences, they go on for just a tad too long and perhaps another edit would have moved the story on at a slightly speedier pace. And in terms of space horror beats, “Dead Silence” hits them all pretty well with a combination of slow burn build up, well done exposition, and a genuinely disturbing scenario that will set the reader on edge. An audiobook adaptation narrated by Lauren Ezzo was released alongside the hardback edition via Macmillan Audio. The results are always the same: the visions, pain, and memory loss are likely psychological, not physical in origin. There were certain elements of the story that I wish had been different or handled another way, but overall I had a good time with the book. it's a whizz-bang adventure story about a beacon-repair crew on the tail-end of their final mission, after which machines will take over the work from humans like some futuristic version of the industrial revolution. They scavenge but get the idea to use their ships navigation to bring it in so they will get everything, but that means they will have to stay on the ship with all the dead bodies.
