About this deal

Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more. Though it's highly likely that the lines were recorded in 2001, just like all the other lines that aren't redubbed due to the voices themselves being not really different. The new box features a nice bright orange colour that is similar to the original “orange brick” DVD set, while also showcasing some iconic imagery of Goku, Frieza, and Super Saiyan 2 Gohan. The running time is an eye-watering 120 hours, which is just my way of getting round to admitting that I haven’t got around to watching them all for this review. Minimal redubbing is present with Kyle Hebert redubbing Christopher Sabat as Ox King but no longer as the narrator despite his earlier work sounding deeper than most of his narration (he was retaining consistency with Dale Kelly at the time).

Commander Red, Staff Officer Black, and Major Metallitron's voices are still voiced by Mike Wiebe, Phillip Wilburn, and Chris Sabat respectively instead of having Josh Martin, Sabat, and Chris Rager redub them from the previous series. UK distributor Manga Entertainment has announced that the original Dragon Ball Z anime series will be coming to Blu-ray for the United Kingdom and Ireland territories. The dragon boxes cant be definitive for some rather obvious major problems but I cant think of any major issues the level sets have compared to other releases. The Japanese discs do look measurably better thanks to their more forgiving compression, and I believe anyone that wants to own a definitive copy of Dragon Ball/Z/GT should own them. It should also be noted that image is gained in the left and right (roughly about 5%) from the standard definition. One of Chi-Chi's lines in " Goku's Special Technique" is voice matched by Lydia Mackay in place of her usual actress Cynthia Cranz due to Cranz not being available for recording it. The latter's line asking Yajirobe if he's okay after his skycar is destroyed is replaced with "Hey mister, are you okay? However, Yakon's lines have been left unaltered from the voice filter that was used to deepen his voice in the original version, which is now removed on the Remastered boxsets, as well as Innocent Buu's effect that lighten his voice originally. For me to even consider these, the new cuts must be excellent without cropping, without quality variations between episodes, steelbook artwork needs to be something special with a decent treatment. Vegeta turning Super Saiyan in Episode 129 also has a sound effect when his hair turns Golden, which also has been lost.

I don't think we're ever going to see Dragon Ball Z in 4:3 again outside of the next "LIMITED EDITION ONLY FOR REAL DRAGON BALL Z FANS A MUST HAVE FOR ANY COLLECTOR!I went on here to get a DVD copy but couldn't find much comparative information on the different sets. I got the original French dvd boxsets for DB and DBZ and even though its dvds, i love them in 4:3 and the boxes are amazing. Speaking of which, there are also subtle things like the black crush which I think more than anything is a result of the colors overall being too dark, an issue that encompasses the entirety of the video. Sabat initially followed suit with Paul Dobson and gave Zarbon an Australian accent before he devolved away into a more Mid-Atlantic sounding voice. This is likely just going to be yet another repackage of the 30th anniversary discs, but with Crunchyroll's branding on the covers and before the main menus.
