This is such a great game for kids who are at different skill levels yet want to play a game together.

Admittedly, there are also more cards in the deck which do not place any ghosts (the plain shuffle card as well as the four door cards), however, the locked door cards will make it much more difficult to navigate the house, and this in turn makes it harder for you to fight off ghosts in a timely manner as you may not be able to take shortcuts through rooms like you can when the doors are open.It’s the same as Ghost Fightin’ Treasure Hunters, which is to be expected, but I’m still very impressed by the quality here. And if a room already has a Haunting and you're supposed to add a ghost to it, the ghost moves to the next letter of the alphabet and is placed in that room instead. Another thing to note is that all of the cards and tokens are language independent and use artwork and iconography to get across what they mean. It was a very worthy winner of the Kinderspiel and it’s great that there will finally be an English language edition. Note this expansion does add two new Haunts giving you a bit more breathing room than the original game.

I would also say that if you’ve played Ghost Fightin’ Treasure Hunters and thought it was merely okay, something you would play but probably wouldn’t suggest, this may just be the thing to turn your play experience from okay to good if not great. I’ve actually seen a few German ladies walking around with them as earrings… The player movers are also well designed with a great amount of detail. There are also escalation cards which cause multiple spawns to happen, as well shuffling the deck, which reopens any locked doors. It's really easy to pick up and it really gives you a sense of camaraderie playing together during the basic version. If they end their turn in a square with a Treasure Token they can pick it up by putting it into the backpack on their miniature.Without the rocket ship, the poisonous snakes, and the mole rat astronauts, Mole Rats in Space would just be a cooperative chutes and ladders. On their turn, players must roll a die, then they resolve the roll by first flipping a card that has a letter corresponding with a room on the board where then they must place a new ghost, then they are able to move their ghost fighting treasure hunter around the house the same number of spaces as the number rolled on the die so they can find treasure and/or manage the haunting situation.

Meanwhile, my daughter Grace and I were able to beat Creepy Cellar on Nightmare mode within our first handful of plays. Trust me, don’t dismiss this game or enter into it thinking that it will be easy… You’ve been warned! If you have placed the third ghost in a room, you replace the three ghost tokens with a red Haunting token. Players win if they can get all eight treasures and their whole team out of the house; they lose if all six hauntings are on the board.I'd been greatly enjoying the base game with my kids, as well as family friends - with the latter as a casual, easy to pick up game.

I love co-op games and whilst this is undoubtedly aimed at the family market, it makes for a really quick and light co-op fun for adults too. For my final thoughts, to start off, if you have kids and you don’t have Ghost Fightin’ Treasure Hunters yet you should fix that mistake as soon as possible. Since then it has seen fairly regular play across a very diverse audience including family, casual and serious gamers. One of our family’s favorite video games to play together is Luigi’s Mansion, and Ghost Fightin’ Treasure Hunters makes us happy for many of the same reasons.
