I played football (soccer) as a teenage girl but in the USA, so I do come from a background similar but I Hr UK youth network is quite different and I appreciated seeing that difference. Reading Beth’s experiences it can be easy to forget how young she is, and it can make you sigh with disappointment to think that it wasn’t the 70s when she was faced with sexism, segregation, and bigotry. Beth reminds us that despite the fact that women’s football has come a long way, especially since the Euros, it is still massively underfunded and lacking in resources compared to the men.

I really enjoyed reading this book, I could not put it down and stayed up far too late to finish it. Beth Mead was the standout player from the England team, although to read her story you will be struck by just how humble she is.There might be some things that were lacking in some areas—writing, characterisation, plot etc, but there may have been a few moments that I liked.

This helps to shed light on the difficulties so many of our top players have faced to make it to where they are now in football. The journey to European Champion and Player of the Tournament wasn’t easy, success didn’t come without challenges and perseverance.So is being a non football fan in London is hard being a female footballer is a billion times more difficult, which is what makes Beth and the other Lioness' story even more incredible. It's inspiring, well-written, and filled with anecdotes of some of the most important moments in Beth Mead's life– from signing with her now-club Arsenal to winning the UEFA Women's Euro 2022 with England's Lionesses– and everything in between.
