About this deal

Books about death aren’t for me”, just hear me out, because “Lying About Last Summer” is everything but a grim story. Even the Big Twist was foreshadowed to death (bad pun but I can't think of a better term right now) and fell a bit flat.

Yes, pleasant, breezy summer nonsense is always welcome, but a little bit of darkness now and again is most welcome and Lying About Last Summer explores a safe amount of darkness without becoming inappropriate for younger readers or betraying the nature of the story. Não sei bem se poderemos atribuir a categoria de Thriller a este livro, tem um pouco de suspense mas nada de muito intenso sendo um Young adult. There is mystery surrounding Luisa's death, the messages in the private chat and some of Skye's fellow campers, and when everything started to come together into its exploding conclusion I was on the edge of my seat. After Oxford Brookes University (I was one of the first people to do their publishing degree), I became a magazine journalist. However before the summer is over she not only has to confront her stalker but get to the bottom of her disquiet surrounding her campmates. This book explores a very wide range of themes, which are extremely prominent throughout, and act as an effective series of underlying messages within the overall plot.

Tym samym powieść nie ma przygnębiającego wydźwięku, ale w zamian poczucie narastającego zagrożenia i rosnącej tajemnicy, zagadki, na której rozwiązanie czeka się z prawdziwą niecierpliwością. The main character skye was a lovely character who i found reacted well to everything that happened to her within the book. One year later she is sent to a week-long 'bereavement camp' for teens who have lost someone close to them. The setting and the characterisation was unique and misleading, it was just all together a brilliant read that feels like it officially started summer for me!

The book begins in the past at Yew Tree House, last summer, where we catch a glimpse of what happened to Luisa, Skye's sister and how Skye was involved. Sue Wallman is a former magazine journalist who now combines writing with being a secondary school librarian.Skye makes friends with Faye, Joe and Brandon who she builds a close relationship with and gave this story a hopeful outlook which was lovely. It added a bit of extra chill factor to the book, and that's the only bit of the story I didn't guess - who was behind those messages. It is strong conceptually, and particularly excels in the way it handles several challenging topics. Her sister died in a tragic accident and her parents think a camp for grieving teens might help her.
