A lot of great Bat Family moments especially with Dick and Barbara, I love their dynamic in the early years of Gotham before the Bat Family got overwhelmingly larger. Nightwing: Year One introduces us to a character who will take a path different from the one of his mentor.

C. Comics is run by liberals, and they don’t want him to get royalties from the books he wrote despite him being very popular with Batman and Nightwing fans. Luckily, Nightwing and the Titans have been given a show on the DC Universe app, and with season 2 we have seen some changes. Speaking of Jason you have to feel sorry for him, his introduction into the story is fairly scary and the look in his eyes when Batman takes him away for a "chat" makes you understand why he would later feel some anger towards Bruce, even Dick is fairly cruel towards him to start with.Surprisingly, the retcon used to justify such a wardrobe choice was done with such brilliance it actually makes the suit itself a little less ridiculous looking.

On June 10, 2008, Dixon announced on his forum that he was no longer "employed by DC Comics in any capacity. Dick Grayson is an interesting character; they transitioned him from being Robin because of how the character was being used at the time, but the story reasons for him becoming Nightwing are very interesting and tie back to his need to be a hero. It was great to see how Dick wanted to continue helping people despite not being partnered with Batman and how he found a way to do that. Unsure of what to do and where to turn, he seeks solace from familiar sources, starting with a visit to the Man of Steel, Superman. This story tells the history of Dick Grayson and his life after Batman fired him, as he gains advice from Superman, aids Deadman, and makes the decisions that lead him to become a new crimefighter. He is (along with artist Graham Nolan) the creator of the Batman villain Bane, the first permanent addition to the Dark Knight's rogues gallery in 40 years and for which he won 1993's Wizard Fan Award for best new character. Being that I am a HUGE Nightwing fan (I own every incarnation of him as an action figure),and for the most part have never liked Morrison's work, I was dreading Morrison's take on him. He is also the co-creator of an ambitious line of graphic novels based on the American Civil War available now through Dover books. There are, of course, nice moments--we get more scenes of the mainly undefined Dick Grayson/Barbara Gordon relationship, as well as a new "first appearance" of Killer Croc--an origin reconned out of mainstream continuity when Jason Todd lost his first, circus-based origin after Crisis on Infinite Earths.

I. Joe and Transformers animation, as well as more than a dozen books about superheroes, including the best-selling "How To Be" BATMAN HANDBOOK from Quirk Books. He launched Way of the Rat in June 2002, Brath (March '03), The Silken Ghost (June '03) and the pirate comic El Cazador (Oct '03), as well as editing Robert Rodi's non-Sigilverse The Crossovers. Nightwing: Year One takes the snapshot of time between Dick Grayson ending his tenure as Robin and beginning his career as Nightwing and brings that journey as well as what makes him a totally unique hero from not only Batman but everybody else in the DCU primarily through a series of team-ups with his peers, mentors and would- be replacements. A place for fans of DC's comics, graphic novels, movies, and anything else related to one of the largest comic book publishers in the world and home of the World's Greatest Superheroes!

Inevitably, Batman also ends up finding the next Boy Wonder who will end up facing Dick Grayson in a battle of ego. Nightwing: Year One is a solid and entertaining origin story revealing Robin's tale of independence and self-discovery. I think the idea is to convey Bats as being less pissed at Dick for botching his job and more hurt by the fact that he's spending more time with the Titans than his mentor, but Dixon's Batman isn't actually nuanced enough to get that point across. I like how they explored the strained relationship between Bruce and Dick and showed how they separated from each other. It gives explanation as to why Grayson walked away from his famous sidekick role (other than obviously aging out of it, since he was no longer a cherubic teenager), and how he took a brief sabbatical of sorts before segueing into a new identity as vigilante Nightwing.

I believe Dixon and (possibly) McDaniel did a fill-in issue on one of the Superman titles around the time Jeph Loeb was on the books that was a great done-in-one Supes/Nightwing team-up. Overall, it’s a fantastic story that is easy for newcomers and great for longtime fans of Dick Grayson’s character.

The appeal of Jason Todd--at least, in theory--would be that he would be Robin, but that he would be tougher and more complicated than the clean, mostly do-right Dick Grayson.
