About this deal

To celebrate the launch of Oh My God What A Complete Aisling, The Novel, authors Emer McLysaght and Sarah Breen, along with publishers Gill Books are hosting a table quiz (what else?

At the moment, the page is bubbling over with excitement about the book, with Aislings, NFATRs and Majellas galore (and yes, the GJs, Mad Toms, and Australia Pauls too) sharing their joy at there (a) being a book and (b) the book being a wonderful read. It is a culture shock for the small town girl as she willingly joins their never ending rose wine and champagne drinking, the world of celebrities, new places to go out, their strange sense of fashion and ideas of cool, veganism and avocado diets. Irish duo Sarah Breen and EmerMcLysaght admitted emotions were running high as the final instalment of their popular series of novels hit shelves on Monday. Aisling has been compared variously from Bridget Jones to Adrian Mole and a host of Marian Keyes characters in between and I'm thrilled with each and every one of those comparisons.Aisling ist zwar etwas älter als ich aber steckt in einer ganz ähnlichen Situation: alle Freundinnen um sie herum heiraten, bauen Häuser und / oder bekommen Kinder. I laughed a lot, which I rarely do with books, I sometimes smile or smirk, but only very occasionally do I laugh. Es sind eben die kleinen oder größeren Aufregungen des Alltags an denen die Autorinnen uns teilhaben lassen.

I've long since disentangled myself from the Facebook group, because it's just too much, but the original sharp character observations are here in spades. I love the way Aisling has her horizons broadened and her thinking pushed into different directions when her personal relationship falls apart. I thought the book was hilarious but I didn't realise quite how funny I found it until I noticed people looking at me in the cafe and realised I was chuckling aloud. It started when two college friends (from Carlow and Kildare) decided to share their observations about a certain type of Irish country girl with a wider audience.Forty-five seconds later, we walk into the diningroom, which, to my horror and disgust, is absolutely heaving. However, they added: “This is the end of the Aisling series, however, we are not going to be burning any bridges with our publisher. I'll be honest, I hated every page that I read, I didn't like Aisling, I'm not keen on books which are full of brogue (it's one of the reasons I never read Scottish historical romances - hate all the och aye rubbish) and this just hit every one of my triggers. Ihr Verhalten ist so abstrus, dass ich schon nicht mehr lachen konnte (ich denke Aisling sollte vor allem lustig rüber kommen), sondern lieber weinend mit dem Kopf schütteln wollte. A brilliant read for those times you need something light and frothy, with great characters, and comic fun.

Die Probleme die Aisling sich selbst geschaffen hat, hätten mit einigen guten Gesprächen gelöst werden können und somit wäre das gesamte Buch im Sande verlaufen.I suspect (although have not followed the Facebook group so can’t be sure) – that it started off with lots of the jokes off the Facebook page – but then had to be filled out with proper novel! Looking back on their journey from the first book to now, the pair reflected on the highs and lows, from getting the seal of approval from Aisling fans Marion Keyes and Leo Varadkar, to tougher times dealing with mental health.
