About this deal

This makes for a fun straight through read, but I think someone could read this a chapter or two at a time, maybe interspersed with listening to her work again, and spread it out over a week or two. It’s the closest we get to see the singer with her guard down, upbeat but slightly paranoid about the release of her Aerial album. Even then, I was aware of an all-knowing, grown-up flirtatiousness that was different and very appealing.

Doyle concludes with her surprising pop-culture resurgence when “Running up That Hill” was featured on the sci-fi drama Stranger Things, introducing her to new generations of listeners. It was well written but felt somewhat repetitive, with her need to be in control, her dedication to art above commerce, and willingness to spend as long as it takes, reiterated many times. visions" does seem like it's going to be a very inventive radical new biography format, which it isn't really, but it still makes for an interesting read! It’s also a scrapbook of lists: chapter 48 reveals where to look on each album cover for a “KT” symbol – one has been hidden on every sleeve since her debut, The Kick Inside. But what I found extraordinarily moving and powerful in one of the later chapters was Tom Doyle's account of Kate's appearance at the Q Awards in 2001.I still think that; but after reading RUTH, I think her leave-taking will be less shrouded in morning mists and accompanied by angels singing mournful airs than an altogether more jolly affair, with lots of waving and goodbyes, and as much laughter as tears. She tells him ‘maybe’, but then responds predictably by saying that the quality might have dropped if she’d made more. Another issue, given that imagery is so much a part of the Kate Bush mythos, is that ‘50 Visions Of Kate Bush’ is unusually devoid of any photographs. I may not have been the target audience (though from the blurb I didn’t see that) but I don’t think I was presented with 50 “Visions” maybe 50 vignettes. Muzyka, którą tworzy nie jest komercyjną – jej twórczość uchodzi za trudną, choć niezwykle intrygującą i tajemniczą.

We have a regular newsletter with the week’s new releases that goes out every Thursday or Friday too. Kate Bush w 50 odsłonach” to zgrabna publikacja, która prócz podstawowych informacji o artystce zawiera sporo anegdot i wspomnień, opowieści innych osób czy przytoczonych wywiadów Kate. With Netflix’s Stranger Things inspiring a new generation of fans, Kate Bush has made an incredible resurgence in popularity and has broken new records.

I'm a massive Kate Bush fan anyway but I've come away with a totally new appreciation of her as an artist and as a woman after finishing this book. Through a number of articles, interviews, and conversations with Kate herself, her friends, collaborators and fellow artists, Tom Doyle puts together a fairly comprehensive account of her career throughout the years. Of course, if you’ve been lucky enough to sit down and interview Kate in person, then you have a distinct advantage and that’s exactly what the author of Running Up That Hill: 50 Visions of Kate Bush – journalist Tom Doyle – got the opportunity to do in 2005, commissioned by UK’s Mojo magazine, a publication Kate had agreed to talk to, to promote her Aerial album. Ever since a teenage Kate Bush arrived chanting Heathcliff’s in 78, stretching the key of C sharp like an oscillating wave, there’s been a sense of the otherworldly about her. Kate’s determination to produce herself and her apparent disinterest in touring (post The Tour of Life) are both fairly well known traits but somehow Doyle imbues them with a freshness.
