Overall, the chaos was entertaining to read however I do feel the book fell short of discussing a very real concept of finding peace and paradise after leaving behind something that does not serve you and where you do not feel adequately understood or supported. They also offer up the idea that her parents’ experiences have had an impact on her life through the ways they inform the advice they give her.

Narisa was a wild child who mostly did as she pleased, even if it meant hurting others in the process (especially Eleanor, whom she bullied and ridiculed relentlessly). Kingsolver’s ferocious indictment of the pharmaceutical industry, angrily stated by a local girl who has become a nurse, is in the best Dickensian tradition, and Demon gives a harrowing account of his descent into addiction with his beloved Dori (as naïve as Dickens’ Dora in her own screwed-up way). So when he realized the purpose of his later-in-life, titular assignment — that he was driving Corazon to Imelda so that the former may absolve the latter — he was vexed and respectfully expressed as much to Mrs.She ends up pregnant after quitting the program, but their marriage seems to be rocky from the fact he simply gets everything and she struggles.

With multiple POVs, I also felt detached to the characters and I had expected some characters to be deepened. In A Quitter's Paradise, the darkly humorous debut by bold, new voice Elysha Chang, a young woman does everything she can to ignore her mother's death, even as unearthed family secrets become increasingly inextricable from her own. This book went nowhere, the characters were unlikable, and there is seemingly no ending to any of the plot arcs.I was confused as to what the story was really about - there seemed to be no plot - and the jumps between the present day and the past made it even harder to figure out.
