There’s a completely different set up and mood created in each character’s diary entry so it’s all really enjoyable. As a 19 year old myself, the way that French wrote the teenager really irritated me, having her concerned with very little else but, like, prom and like, her ex-boyfriend that she totally doesn't even want anymore but is actually, like, completely 100% in love with, FYI. The only character I found enteraining to read from was Oscar and even he got old after several long chapters.

She's a complete embodiment of the teenage stereotype and it's bad enough listening to adults impersonating teenagers in everyday life, but to read it without any sense of irony is just plain frustrating. It's squarely and unashamedly aimed at middle aged women, it's full of stereotyped characters and irritating text-speak, has a plot that's largely predictable from the blurb alone, and a "twist" that's both obvious and pointless. In short, I found A Tiny Bit Marvellous to be wildly entertaining, extremely heartfelt, and fine diversion. It's a novel of the "mental chewing gum" variety - no thought required - but it's a pretty good example of that kind of book.Their relationships with each other which can be warm, loving, frustrating, funny, annoying and angry either separately or all at once is typical of family confined to sharing the same living space. I loved the way in each chapter, all the respective characters’ personalities are reflected through the difference in their tones of language and their choice of words.

Overall, the novel is lighthearted, sweet and it makes good light weekend reading but if you're looking for drama, suspense and an almighty crescendo. The storyline was in complete disarray; the storyline leading up to the 'climatic' moments were not introduced into the novel until past midway. I did wonder whether Dawn had decided to make Peter a rather unusual teenager to provide some respite from Dora’s angst, or she would have had two angst-ridden teenagers on her hands which would probably be just a bit too much for most readers. However, Mo is somewhat lost, unsure of who she is as she faces this milestone of a birthday and is about to do something particularly foolish that will surely mean consequences for all her family. The novel is written in a series of diary entries from the points of view of the various members of the Battle family, and their versions of events, and while there are some interesting storylines for me the main focus was the characters themselves. Thinking it looked like something I'd like, I picked it up for a couple of pennies at a carboot sale and started to read it almost straight away. I really enjoyed this novel and I think it was a great debut outing for Dawn French into the world of fiction. in many places it was indeed, marvellous, but given the one dimensional nature of the characters, the lack of any real plot and the fact that it was probably 100 pages or so longer than necessary, it did to some extent, flatter to deceive.

This is a poignant novel by Dawn French which is told through the eyes of a mother and her two teenage children. Ovog puta to kaže Sunday Times, a obično ne zaostaju za time ni New York Times i ostale "papirnate kuće". Laughter, challenge, affirmation and clever use of language has to override at least some of the shortcomings previously referred to so yes . Htjela sam provjeriti kakva je Dawn French kao pisac, s obzirom da mi je u seriji Vikar iz Dibleya bila odlična.She’s about to do something unusually wild and selfish, which will leave the entire family teetering on the edge of a precipice. When it does come, it is often with Husband, the father of these two teens, and Pamela, the mother of Mo. Summary: Mother Mo and siblings Dora and Peter tell the story of the Battles, an average dysfunctional family full of turmoil, on the brink of meltdown as they face the twists and turns of modern life. This is Dawn’s first novel and it is written from each of the characters own points of view and we get to see the ups and downs of family life and the different relationships and feelings they have for each other.

Yes, we know teenage girls overuse 'like' and we've seen shallowness and mother-hating (but mother-loving underneath all the vitriol, ahhh) a thousand times before. in the process of writing a survival manual for parents of teens as she remains completely clueless about and/or at loggerheads with her own. Her bestselling memoir, Dear Fatty, was published in the United Kingdom to critical acclaim, and her first novel, A Tiny Bit Marvellous, was a number-one UK bestseller. Dawn French’s voice is so distinctive and her bawdy humor and wry talent for comedic observation is evident when reading.Synopsis: This first novel by Dawn French is told through the eyes of a mother and her two teenage children. Naturally there's a wise and all-knowing grandmother whom all of them love and turn to for advice, a woman who manages to be hip while remaining empathic and right there with the home-baked goodies (recipes at the end of the book! I had high hopes for this book, but found it sadly lacking in originality, laughs and an engaging story. Nekako sam došla do polovice knjige, ostalo sam preletjela, ali za obje polovice učinak je isti - jedno veliko ništa!
