Each poem was beautifully written and was like releasing a breath of toxic air to clear your lungs to inhale fresh air. Effectively Cullhed tries to do in more capacious, domestic and worldly form what Plath succeeded so spectacularly in doing in her final poems – writing all the pleasure and pain of maternal and sexual love in a world at once ordinary (baking, gardening, sleeping children) and feverishly charged. Most of it quite beautiful to read, but did take me a while to get into the collection itself, since there wasn't a lot of rhyming in the poems.

Topics like God, religion, love, loss, mental health, recovering appearing again and again with more insight and more vulnerability in the words. Cullhed dramatises the episode where Plath rides the horse Ariel for the first time just after Hughes has left her, displeasing the stable girl by galloping, unhelmeted, away from the paddock. This was so beautiful and calming and so in depth to feelings we choose not to acknowledge on a daily basis. They reveal the treasure to be found both in quiet moments alone and in encounters with other people, and they help us celebrate these and the value to be found in our everyday lives.
