While Khonshu languishes in prison, Marc Spector's sacred duty must still be observed: the protection of those who travel at night. Accompanied by Tigra and the undead Fists of Khonshu, Moon Knight was victorious with the Midnight Mission and neighborhood safe. Mackay is fast becoming a name for me to watch at Marvel - his Moon Knight already looks set to stand next to his Black Cat as one of my favourite Marvel titles in recent years.

The story is pretty action oriented, though I think Marc Spector’s inner turmoil tends to be overstated. It's nice to see Marvel taking a chance on a newer artist, and it's even nicer to see it paying off.Maybe I'm just saying this because I got Oscar Isaac on the brain but Mr Knight was highkey hot in this. Quite a few new and interesting characters are introduced in this first volume, including his vampire assistant and another Fist of Khonshu. while another Fist of Khonshu appears (“Hunter’s Moon” which sounds like a cheap aftershave) only for Moon Knight to defeat him with a baseball bat to the head. Not to expose myself but I rewatch the Moon Knight show almost every week (not kidding at all, I'm really down bad for him) and this is so different from that and yet they are both so good. This also fits right in with the recent Marvel television version, which I really enjoyed, and works as Moon Knight's continuing adventures following that story arc.

The way they absolutely hate each other but have to work together and tolerate each other is perfection. It's a busier version of the Declan Shalvey designed costume, but I think simpler is always better and they should have just used it. One of Moon Knight's earliest rescues were a group of neighbors forcibly turned into vampires by a vampiric pyramid scheme cult. Interrogating the latter, Moon Knight left with Winner and Tigra to save Andrea from Jigsaw while leaving Soldier and Reese behind thinking them safe.

Jed Mackay evidently didn't get that note, because his characterisation of Moon Knight and his various personalities seems almost effortless. Gravely wounded in his showdown with Black Spectre, Moon Knight managed to stop the resonator from proceeding as planned. However, the Mission continues to face new threats, including a mysterious Moon Knight who is fueled entirely by an insatiable thirst for vengeance. I don’t have much else to say other than you would probably like this if you are interested in the new Disney + show.

It's not hyper-violent like Huston, or a trippy space war being fought in the mindscape like Lemire.

He also builds him an interesting supporting cast, complete with a new villain and a character who can best be described as a rival. After the dreck that was the Age of Khonshu, we find a battered Moon Knight back to his old, street-level ways. The Midnight Mission reminds me Jed Mackay's Black Cat series in that there's lots of fun action here, but very little exciting world-building. Daredevil has Hell's Kitchen, Luke Cage has Harlem, but Moon Knight doesn't define his community by traditional neighborhood lines.
