About this deal

He joined the Mail in 2014, initially through their trainee scheme, and has contributed extensively to their award-nominated Enough is Enough campaign concerning dementia in football. The majority of pages are undamaged with some creasing or tearing, and pencil underlining of text, but this is minimal. Book looks great but was hoping that the accompanying pack would be a little like a panini book and magazine monthly I used to get as a child from which I read my way through lots of children’s classics I would never have come across or understood.

From her childhood in New York and Puglia in Italy and the accident which nearly killed her, to the successful career in in commercial law and the passions which drive her on, despite all too public crises which would be the end of most of us. This is an unusual story set a century ago at a time when it was not socially acceptable for women to play football.

This might be a tad spoilery, but I think it’s important to discuss so that you know what kind of book it is: the narrative is very aware of the urge to have a happy ending, and actively explores the tension the reader feels as the end of the book approaches, thinking, ‘he must be coming back soon, surely’. But there are few pat endings like that in real life, and it takes a very sensitive and well-crafted book to tackle that impulse to believe in a happy ending without being deliberately cruel or tragic. Grey hardback(silver lettering to the spine) with Dj(a couple of small nicks, scratches and crease on the edges of the Dj cover),both in fine condition. It's a story which millions think they know already, from the acres of purely speculative newsprint which this fascinating woman has generated.A stand-out novel inspired by the incredible true stories of female football legends like Lily Parr and Alice Woods. For the first 150 pages, she relates in loving detail the story of her humble beginnings in Bari, her university career at NYU, her unstoppable rise to the top rungs of legal and political life in Rome. In addition to that, I actually found the football scenes enthralling, which really surprised me – far from being dry sporting stuff, they’re full of character work and I ended up really rooting for Polly and her team in each match.
