The swords vary in length in the show depending on the scene, so part of me wishes they were a bit longer and thinner, but these look good proportionally with Usagi. The white samurai rabbit himself, Usabi Yojiimbo is back, and a new black and white Stan Sakai figure. There was an attempt in 1994 to give Space Usagi his own show, and there's test footage out there with Jim Cummings doing the voice of Usagi, but the show never got off the ground as a full-fledged series. I always learned that when it comes to words ending in "o," you pluralize living things by adding "-es" (tomatoes, grottos) but you only add "-s" to non-living things (radios, Cheerios).
A standard Black and White version is available, and now there’s also a Space version of Usagi as well. They also come with two smaller characters, namely the Grybyx from the episode of the same name (he looks like Gizmo from the Gremlins movie and Q-Bert had an offspring together) and Tribble, the baby Neutrino from "Four Turtles and a Baby. While this is not a TMNT release, a turtles ally is back with an impressive and very limited edition figure. Originally I thought they just wanted the rights to Usagi for TMNT, but it does say they licensed the comic series.
When I became an adult I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.
It seemed that everything has arrived just in time to help promote the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem film.Kala is another character that Playmates did a pretty good job on, but the NECA sculpt absolutely nails the head dimensions and proportions. The elastic belt can tuck into the gap between his shirt and pants and is nearly invisible, which I think was a great solution. Thi s deluxe box set includes four versions of the warrior with all new deco along with a wide variety of accessories inspired by the classic comic book series, all w ra p ped up in a collectible box with gold foil embellishments.
The chest overlay is soft plastic as is the crotch piece and the soft plastic allows for great hip movement, but Usagi can’t quite hit a two-handed sword holding pose even with the soft chest overlay. These rabbits are selling fast and can be found right here; stay tuned for a standard Space Usagi later on.
Roll forward and I am now reliving that Youth with the action figures of today and am a collector and fan of the larger 6-8 inch figures from my favourite movie and TV licenses - including the ones mentioned above, but also the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Doctor Who, and the Aliens. Zak the Neutrino got a Playmates action figure in 1990 which substantially redesigned his look, and it got a reissue in different colors as part of the Toon Turtles assortment along with a more accurate Dask and Kala in 1992, but the colors were still all over the place. Usagi Yojimbo is one of my favorite comics, I love his team-ups with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and the prototype looked so killer, making this guy my most anticipated figure of the year.

I recommend grasping the up-pointing ears by the base, since mine came separated where the ears meet the base, and I had to glue them back together. These 7” scale action figures are fresh from the pages of the comics and fully articulated for great poses. The weapon holsters for other toys like Traag and Granitor have always seemed too fragile to me, so this was a good alternate design approach. They told me flat-out they don't forward packages, only letters, so I'm honestly surprised I even got it.
