Though most of the albums can be found on vinyl, be aware that some of them are pretty pricey! Why Did Alice In Chains Break Up? In an interview with Video Metal Sheet in 1991, Jerry Cantrell said that the original idea for the album cover was "an embryonic-type thing" representing the birth of the band. But it ended up taking more of a scary overtone and fitting quite well with the music. [21] Jar of Flies is one of the most popular vinyls you can find from Alice In Chains. In terms of popularity it’s by far one of the most popular EPs ever released. Although EPs like the Jay-z- Linkin Park collision course have repeated the feat, Jar of Flies was the first EP to ever debut at the top of the billboard.

All music written by Jerry Cantrell, except "It Ain't Like That", written by Cantrell, Mike Starr and Sean Kinney, and "Confusion", written by Cantrell and Starr. Killing Yourself", recorded during the Facelift sessions, was featured as the B-side to the 1990 "We Die Young" vinyl single. It has never been issued on CD. de Sola, David (August 4, 2015). For people who collect vinyl based on the cover art that you’re going to display, the Jar of Flies album definitely is right up your alley. The album cover depicts an adolescent boy staring into a revolting jar of flies. The album was released in 1992—a time when grunge was still going strong but had already started to shift from its early days of pure aggression towards something more melodic and less abrasive. As good as listening to any band can sound on vinyl, live performances are special. While studio recordings give you the clearest form of any song, a live performance allows you to feel it, putting you in the pit as you listen to the music and energy from the stage.

The band Alice in Chains broke up temporarily after the untimely death of their lead singer, Layne Staley from a drug overdose. They took a bit of time off and then reconnected with a new front runner to produce some more music and tour. There are also moments where everything slows down into calmer territory; these usually come after intense verses or choruses full of shouting lyrics about death or addiction—which makes sense given the context behind them being written during Layne Staley’s struggle with drug addiction. Thomas Dunne Books. pp.115–116. ISBN 978-1250048073. Great box set here with a few minor quibbles: The clear plastic on the cover is quite flimsy. It's super thin, so you'll want to handle the box top (lid) with care. Speaking of, would it have killed them to make the lid cover the entire box? As is, it just seems awkward that the box rests on it when it's on it's side, but on the plus side, the lid is easier to get off otherwise. Also, the prints of the guys are on some of the cheapest paper ever. For the price, I would have expected they would've been printed on something more high quality. These look like someone ran them off their office printer. Cheap cheap cheap. And finally, the colored overlays are cool I guess, but after seeing them, they serve no purpose whatsoever. They could've cut the price (or printed the band member photos on better paper!) by just having one transparency instead or some other design. Annnnd...finally...would it have killed them to actually print the lyrics in some font in addition to the artsy-fartsy one that's actually readable in the book? The book is great and all, but it's content is spread out so much that it's like they were desperately trying to pad it out to make a decent sized book.

The album opens up with “Rotten Apple” and flows into “Nutshell,” which really sets the tone for what’s to come: slow but powerful guitar riffs driven by Jerry Cantrell’s deep voice and some catchy drum beats by Sean Kinney bring together some pretty heavy moments throughout this song (and others).
