About this deal

With the success of Showcase #4, several other 1940s superheroes were reworked during Schwartz' tenure, including Green Lantern, Aquaman, the Atom, and Hawkman, [15] and the Justice Society of America was reimagined as the Justice League of America. [12] The DC artists responsible included Murphy Anderson, Gil Kane, Ramona Fradon, Mike Sekowsky, and Joe Kubert. [12] Only the characters' names remained the same; their costumes, locales, and identities were altered, and imaginative scientific explanations for their superpowers generally took the place of magic as a modus operandi in their stories. [15] Schwartz, a lifelong science-fiction fan, was the inspiration for the re-imagined Green Lantern [16]—the Golden Age character, railroad engineer Alan Scott, possessed a ring powered by a magical lantern, [16] but his Silver Age replacement, test pilot Hal Jordan, had a ring powered by an alien battery and created by an intergalactic police force. [16] Among the series being renumbered were Action Comics and Detective Comics, which had previously retained their original numbering since the 1930s. Though Golden Age/ Earth-Two Batmanwas (mostly) erased from history, many stories of Batman's Silver Age/ Earth-One career remained canonical in the post-Crisis universe, with his origins remaining the same in essence, despite some alteration. When the television show was a success, I was asked to be campy, and of course when the show faded, so did the comic books."

England” was almost as big a craze as Batman at this time so it was no surprise that the Dynamic Duo would hop across The Pond to meet well-meaning but bumbling imitators ‘Batchap and Bobbin’, fighting crime in the sleepy hamlet of Lemon Regis (October 23 rd– December 18 th) after which the Sundays were incorporated into the working week storylines…In the mid-1960s, DC established that characters appearing in comics published prior to the Silver Age lived on a parallel Earth the company dubbed Earth-Two. Characters introduced in the Silver Age and onward lived on Earth-One. [17] The two realities were separated by a vibrational field that could be crossed, should a storyline involve superheroes from different worlds teaming up. [17] Among straightforward Silver Age superheroes from publishers other than Marvel or DC, Charlton Comics offered a short-lived superhero line with characters that included Captain Atom, Judomaster, the Question, and Thunderbolt; Tower Comics had Dynamo, Mercury Man, NoMan and other members of the superhero espionage group T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents; and even Gold Key had Doctor Solar, Man of the Atom. a b Blumberg, Arnold T. (Fall 2003). " 'The Night Gwen Stacy Died': The End of Innocence and the Birth of the Bronze Age". However, Bruce Wayne is soon revealed to be alive, albeit now suffering almost total amnesia of his life as Batman and only remembering his life as Bruce Wayne through what he has learned from Alfred. The first Batman story, " The Case Of The Chemical Syndicate," was published in Detective Comics #27 (May 1939). His first major story arc was " Night of the Owls", where Batman confronts the Court of Owls, a secret society that has controlled Gotham for centuries.

Adventure Comics #361–380; Action Comics #377–387, 389–392; Superboy #147; Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen #106 The popularity and circulation of comic books about superheroes had declined following World War II, and comic books about horror, crime and romance took larger shares of the market. However, controversy arose over alleged links between comic books and juvenile delinquency, focusing in particular on crime, horror, and superheroes. In 1954, publishers implemented the Comics Code Authority to regulate comic content. [41] Others argue that magic was an important element of both Golden Age and Silver Age characters. [42] Many Golden Age writers and artists were science-fiction fans or professional science-fiction writers who incorporated SF elements into their comic-book stories. [43] Science was a common explanation for the origin of heroes in the Silver Age. [44]

In the story " The Mightiest Team in the World " in Superman #76 (June 1952), Batman teams up with Superman for the very first time and the pair discovers each other's secret identity. Following the success of this story, World's Finest Comics was revamped so it featured stories starring both heroes together instead of the separate Batman and Superman features that had been running before. The team-up of the characters was a financial success in an era when those were few and far between; this series of stories ran until the book's cancellation in 1986.
