About this deal

I’m not sure when Dave became just a fellow consumer, deciding who to give “our” money to, instead of a salesman, but I wonder if Driscoll steered anyone else away from Allardice, or just certain people that he was already selling a dolly full of booze to? Over the last several years, GlenDronach has emerged as one of the most exciting and best valued Scotch whiskies and has become a consistent medal winner in international competitions. Compared to other sherry matured Scotch whiskies, this is an extraordinary value. The Macallan 18 YO Sherry Oak, to which it is comparable, sells for almost double the price. We deliver to a number of international destinations including the USA. Please use the 'Change Location' link above for an estimate in your local currency or find out more about international delivery PALATE: Brandy soaked Christmas cake sweetness, chocolate-coated nuts, stewed fruits and allspice mixed with rich sherry. Overripe figs with bits of dried orange peel, vanilla, fresh cream and pepper. Perfectly balanced. Chewy and delicious. I finished my first glass without water. It was just perfect! Adding water releases a bit more complexity in the dram.

Those words by Buchanan turned out to be pretty prophetic. Indeed, GlenDronach has become so popular that despite their best intentions, the distillery has had a very difficult time keeping up with demand. Even so much so that they had to discontinue the GlenDronach 15-years-old Revival in 2015, less than 18 months after the original publication date of this article.Ownership changed frequently and nearly all the big whisky brands owned this distillery at one stage or another. Chivas Brother, Charles Grant and William Teacher and Sons left a mark. On the palate, the whisky has the dried fruit sweetness typical of sherry matured whiskies. There are notes of raisin, prune and apple, candied orange and lemon zest, some peach and tropical fruit flavors, along with anise and spice notes of cinnamon, allspice and nutmeg. In addition, there are notes of fresh espresso coffee and walnut. The last time I reviewed the GlenDronach 18 Years Allardice, it was from a batch bottled in 2013. But now I’ve secured a sample of a release that was bottled on October 15th in 2019. That means this particular GlenDronach 18 Years Allardice I’m reviewing is actually a lot older than you might think, maybe even 23 or 24 years old.

Sherry sweetness, dark fruit leather, brown sugar, x-mas spice, citrus peels and some bits of orchard fruit. The GlenDronach is known as one of those distilleries that specializes in Sherry cask aging. Although not as well known as The Macallan or even The Glenfarclas, TheGlenDronach has much in common with them and serves as a sleeper brands for fans of Sherried whiskies. The color is a rich, deep gold. On the nose, there are notes of milk chocolate and brown sugar, along with notes of apple, pear, cherry and a bit of grilled pineapple and some anise. The following indicators should be taken as only a guide and not a set of hard and fast rules. Some "premium" whiskeys really are quite terrible, while some mass market products are good enough to pour into a decanter and serve to the Duke of Edinburgh. A+: A masterpiece and one of the ten best whiskeys of its type. Above five stars.

Sherry sweetness, dark fruity leather, cocoa, citrus peels, vermouth and some orchard fruit and spice notes.

GlenDronach offers an exceptional range of whiskies, which for a long time have represented among the best values for sherried single malts. Prices have been steadily going up over the last few years; a reflection of increasing demand as the brand gets discovered and a more aggressive pricing strategy.

Founded in 1826 by James Allardice, GlenDronach Distillery creates some spectacular single malts. Previously owned by Billy Walker, the distillery is part of the BenRiach Distillery Co. Sold to Brown Forman in 2016, the distillery now falls under the watchful eye of Master Blender, Rachel Barrie. The spirit has more body than some of the lighter Speyside styles. This is great for Sherry cask maturation, something GlenDronach are renowned for. Like its siblings, this is an oily, viscous whisky with a pronounced palate weight, although it is a little drier than the 12 YO and 15 YO expressions.
