About this deal

So why choose HerUniverse for your Studio Ghibli apparel needs? It's simple - we're fans too! We understand the importance of quality, comfort, and style when it comes to showing off your love for something as special as Studio Ghibli. That's why we take great care to curate a collection that reflects the unique spirit and magic of these films. If Studio Ghibli wanted to do a fashion collab, you would think they would partner with a brand that most families and fans could actually afford. And hey, if you can afford these gorgeous clothes, snaps for you! Send me pictures so I can live vicariously through you. Despite his reputation, Howl is in reality an endearing, charming man who is intelligent and considerate, if somewhat self-appreciative and stubborn at times. He enjoys “slithering out” of uncomfortable situations, often in comical ways.

Welcome to the magical world of Studio Ghibli! As a true fan, you know that the whimsical characters and fantastical landscapes of these films are unlike anything else. And now, you can bring that magic to your wardrobe with our Studio Ghibli clothing and accessories collection. I can’t say enough about the moving castle’s beauty in this film. From the steampunk-inspired design to the animation of the castle’s movement and all the little parts moving and operating on their own, there’s a lot to appreciate. The castle’s structure consists of more than 80 elements including turrets, a wagging tongue, cogwheels and bird feet, all of which were rendered as digital objects. Not only do we have clothing featuring your favorite characters like Spirited Away's Chihiro, Ponyo, Totoro, Howl from Howl's Moving Castle, and Kiki from Kiki's Delivery Service, but we also have a wide range of accessories to complete your look. From cute jewelry to cozy scarves, our Studio Ghibli collection has everything you need to show off your love for this beloved franchise. While seemingly levelheaded and suave, Howl is actually extremely immature and vain. After Sophie accidentally mixes up his magic hair dyes, Howl throws a dramatic tantrum, crying out the notorious line, “I give up. I see no point in living if I can’t be beautiful!” Image Source: Screenshot Look #2: Young and Beautiful Howl’s true form takes on a much darker tone. This is the form he uses to fight off warships and bombs to further delay the ongoing war. Howl greatly despises his true form and takes great measures to dye his hair blonde and wear light, airy clothes to disguise it. Look #3: A Heart’s A Heavy Burden Satirical and cheeky, Sophie Hatter is the eldest of three sisters and lives a simple life as a hatmaker. She has already determined that her life is everything but exciting, that nothing will ever happen to her, and that she might as well give up any thoughts of adventure or excitement in her life. On her way to her sister’s bakery, she meets a mystery man who saves her from prying soldiers. This encounter changes her life forever… …And not in the most optimal way. Image Source: Screenshot Look #1: The Allure of Plainness The world we are living in needs a counteract: not as an escape, but as a different outlook. This, to me, is what Hayao Miyazaki’s animated films for Studio Ghibli are about: a commentary on the moment and an alternative to it, always heartfelt, fulfilling, full of fantasy and sentiment. This is also the reason why the final installment of our collaboration with Studio Ghibli feels more timely than ever.

I finishes off the yellow scalloped edging around the cardigan, and tied in the loose ends (which took forever!), then according go the pattern I was done! Crocheting the scallop edge.

When the sleeve was the right length, I started work on the cuffs. I’d never used the ribbing technique in crochet before but it was really easy and quite fun to do! I wanted to recreate the gold banding on either side of the cuff from the movie so I messaged Nathalie for advice. She was really helpful and told me to do a row of UK DC around either edge in yellow. With this done I could sew the cuffs on to the sleeves. Working on the sleeves. That jumbled piece of architecture, that cacophony of hissing steam and creaking joints, with smoke billowing from it as it moves on its own… That castle is home to the magnificent wizard Howl, infamous for both his magical prowess and womanizing tendencies—or, so the rumor goes in Sophie’s small town. Sophie Hatter, as the plain daughter of a hatmaker, does not expect much from her future and is content with making hats for the rest of her life. To gain inspiration for the settings in the film, Miyazaki traveled to Colmar and Riquewihr in Alsace, France. Additional inspiration came from the concepts of future technology in Albert Robida‘s work. Although I’m no fashion expert, I never imagined that Loewe, which was responsible for Rihanna’s red jumpsuit and custom corset at the Super Bowl, would make a Howl’s Moving Castle collection. This isn’t the brand’s first collaboration with Studio Ghibli—it’s also made collections based on Spirited Away and My Neighbor Totoro . However, the brand’s eye-popping prices seem weirdly mismatched with Studio Ghibli’s family-friendly image. Almost there! With the cardigan looking a lot more like the cardigan from the movie, I moved on to the collar. The instructions are really clear and the shaping adds a great point to either end of the collar. The finished sleeves.
