About this deal

I like John Marrs, mostly, as an author. The One and Passengers are really great, and I loved What Lies Between Us so much.

i was expecting something more suspenseful and thrilling like THE ONE or THE PASSANGERS but this was far from it. from the synopsis, i was expecting a haunted house vibe like HOME BEFORE DARK or THE FAMILY UPSTAIRS but when the plot got going, it gave me THE WHISPER MAN and PRETTY GIRLS vibes… if ya know what i mean 🫣😅🫠😦😱🔪 Really enjoyed seeing this side of Marrs, he is such an amazing story teller, and once again proves it to all. Even once you feel like the main plot and secret has been revealed there's still 25% of the book left and the author just slings more at you from all corners until your mind kindly asks for it to be over with.

In this thrilling novel from bestselling author John Marrs, a young couple’s house hides terrible secrets—and not all of them are confined to the past.

It should be the best time in Mia and Finn’s lives - they have a much wished for baby on the way and they have just collected the keys to a new family home. Life is good …until they start renovating and discover a hidden message in one of the rooms “I will save them from the attic”. This is followed by a deeply disturbing discovery in the attic and before you know it life will never be the same. Now their new home isn’t a dream home, it’s a house of horrors. But what is the horror isn’t confined to the past? What if it’s much closer than they think? Mia and Finn are busy turning a derelict house into their dream home when Mia unexpectedly falls pregnant. But just when they think the house is ready, Mia discovers a chilling message scored into a skirting board. Following the clue up into the eaves, the couple make a gruesome discovery: their dream home was once a house of horrors. Everyone except their families soon forgets about a missing child. And me. I remember every one of them. Because I am the bait that lures them here.’ The story is extremely dark but absolutely full of atmosphere and tension. It genuinely does grip you so much you just can’t stop reading until problems get resolved and then straight away something else will happen and you’ll think “oh I’ll just read on and see what happens with this” .. before you know it you’ve finished it in a day.. It won’t be long until the latest disappearance is made public…Everyone except their families soon forgets about a missing child. And me. I remember every one of them. Because I am the bait that lures them here.”

Find a Book

I'll leave you with this gem of a quote and for context I'll tell you that Mia is, I believe, 8 months pregnant: This is my first book by John Marrs and I'm asking myself why? It definitely will not be my last as I hurry off to find all his prior books.
