Electric cars are a step in the right direction, but they have a scaling problem. By 2030, we can expect 84 million electric vehicles (EVs) on roads in Europe alone. There’s no hiding from it, access to charging stations will not keep up with the demand for electric cars. To minimize plug-charging and maximize range, the industry’s strategy, so far, has been to add batteries. That increases the carbon footprint of production and, in turn, boosts weight and the need for high-power charging stations. Our strategy flips that approach. Lightyear 0 delivers more range with less battery, reducing weight and CO₂ emissions per vehicle.

Andrew Stanton, who served as the executive producer of Lightyear, previously voiced Zurg in Toy Story 2, to which Zurg himself is voiced by James Brolin in this film. This is the first Pixar film of the 2020s to be produced in a 2:39:1 aspect ratio (for non-IMAX theaters), since Soul, unlike Luca and Turning Red, which were produced in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio. This is also the third overall animated Disney production to feature a same-sex couple kissing, after The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder episode " Father Figures" and The Owl House episode " Clouds on the Horizon".As a reader pointed out, when Buzz looks at the rookie, the beginning notes of “You've Got A Friend In Me” can be heard. In Toy Story, right after Woody meets Buzz, Buzz asks him if they have discovered crystallic fusion. They haven't of course but Woody replies “We've got Double A's.” As they fight off the bugs, there is a superhero spin of the camera as seen in Marvel Studios movies like Avengers. Given the name change of the Lightyear One, we asked the Dutch team if the second SEV model will also see a name change, perhaps taking over the title of “One?” According to a spokesperson for the company, Lightyear Two is still the working title, but nothing is definitive at this point.

Clothing & Costumes

Following durability testinglast October, Lightyear claimed its SEV prototype would set a new standard in electric vehicle efficiency for the 946 customers it is planning to sell to. I was feeling close to done, but the front of this thing had such a unique design that I wanted to obscure. Sifting through my many bits boxes I found a bit that I’d never found a home for and tried it. It’s the sensor array from a Astra Militarum Hydra, flipped upside-down and with a little trimming done, fit almost perfectly. More green putty and a little styrene and I was finally happy with it. One of the weapons looks like a Scream Canister from Monsters Inc. The best shot of this is when Buzz suits up in his space ranger suit again.
