About this deal

Delivers Optical Perfection, Whether Day or NightThis particular model offers an 8x magnification and a 40mm objective lens diameter. As it sounds, the 8x magnification produces an image that appears as if the user were eight times closer to their subject, while the objective lens diameter refers to how much light can be gathered to form that image. While for daytime use a lens diameter of 21 to 25mm is useful, for night-time viewing something between 35 to 50mm is recommended. Therefore the 40mm specification here indicates excellent suitability for low light visualisation. Overall I think it's a very good starter binoculars at a very attractive price, with a bright and vibrant view. Super lightweight and easy to focus with the wide FOV makes learning the constellations a fun and interesting process. To better guess their value for astro viewing, could you comment on (i) glare, flare and internal reflections when looking at the Moon (or a streetlight), and (ii) how much of that 8° FOV gives good image quality?

As far as the model's construction goes, you have the usual rubber coating that ensures a solid and firm grip. But you also have a couple of things that aren't as prevalent like UV protection that will keep your eyes away from the sun's harmful rays. There's also the built-in dioptric correction technology that does a pretty good job adjusting to the eyesight of every individual.

Olympus 8x40 S Binoculars in Black

I was having a look at your binocular list and I noticed some serious wide angle models which are very interesting. I wear glasses, and I know from the Olympus which has 12mm eye relief that it's about the minimum which works for me: so that would rule out the Vixen 2.1x42, and I was wondering how you find the Vision king 5x25 and the Kasai4x22: is the fov totally enormous compared to 8° and do you get a really strong 3D effect? This Outland 8×42 binocular is great for birdwatchers, thanks to the high quality they provide at a low price.

This lightweight 16×40 Zoom Binocular features a BK-7 Porro prisms design that claims to increase light transmission without compromising the optical quality of your view. The Olympus DPS, being a very decent model, comes with a large, easy to use centre-focus knob which will give you the perfect focus in seconds. Adjusts To Your Eyesight Now, before we move on from the subject of optical performance, there's one more thing that we absolutely have to talk about. While the coating, magnification, and the field of view are all important, even more significant is the aspherical shape of the said optics. It might not sound like much but a form like that guarantees plasticity and distortion-free view more than any other aspect. UV Protection – If you are using binoculars in the sun you may find that it hurts your eyes, but with the UV protection this product provides will prevent any damage to your eyes. It features an large focus knobs and twist-up eyecups so that you can adjust the focus of your view with ease without needing to get up.The one thing we need to remember is that these are just some of the products that you can find online. It’s up to you to decide which one will work for your needs. Yes I'm a bit of a widefield junkie as you can tell from my binos hahah - the Kasai 4x22 I bought in Japan, I don't think they're available anymore, but they are very very wide. The Pleiades looks tiny through them, it gives a different perspective of the sky entirely compared to 8x, pretty cool. Eye relief is 12mm Versatile and Bright, these Binos Will Have You Reaching for the StarsOffering an 8x magnification to bring faraway points of interest that much closer plus a 40mm objective lens diameter, the Olympus 8×40 DPS I Binoculars incorporate fully coated lenses to deliver maximum image brightness, visual impact and image defining contrast. They have multi-coated lenses that will help you see better in any condition and they are waterproof so they are usable in rain, fog or snow. Aspherical optics are used to reduce distortion in the lens to give you a clearer, more accurate picture.
