Murray, Rebecca. "Kate Winslet Discusses The Holiday". About.com. Archived from the original on September 24, 2010 . Retrieved December 1, 2010. Two women who are both going through a break-up, decide to get away from it all for a couple of weeks and find each other on the internet and swap homes. One going to England to a small cottage and the other to a posh Los Angeles neighborhood and estate. While there, they both rediscover themselves, the will to go beyond their own personal comfort zones and reach out for something new and exciting. Oh yes, and they both also fall in love - real love. Formulaic it is (wonderful women with scoundrelly fellas eventually get The Real Men They Deserve - meeting puppy dogs, children, and falling snowflakes on the way of course). But, well-done within a narrow genre, it still stands out. No-brainers like this tend to have dumb scripts and dumber acting, but The Holiday contains warm, natural dialogue and heartfelt chemistry. If this was the 40's, you'd want Jude Law and Cameron Diaz to get married off-screen afterwards. Charismatic and entertaining, unless you find Diaz, Law or Winslet personally irritating (some people do), they are a joy to watch, filling their parts with love and light. Excellent production values keep the rather trite story flowing. Everything is picture-perfect, long lenses flattering the features of the already handsome stars, filters and soft-focuses carefully delineating the mood.

"The Holiday (2006)". Variety. Archived from the original on December 28, 2013 . Retrieved December 15, 2013. Next, we meet Cameron Diaz, who's having a terrible fight with her boyfriend, Edward Burns. It's a wonderful introduction to her character as well, because even though she appears to be tough and not as sensitive as Kate Winslet, we see subtleties that indicate she has deep feelings in her she's been repressing for a long time. Nathan sneezed-likely the peppermint extract-then cleared his throat, his Adam's apple bobbing. He was obviously nervous to have interrupted the show's "talent," especially when she was clearly not having the best day. "Oh, uh, sorry, Ms. Goodwin. I didn't realize-" NICOLE SPERLING (December 12, 2006). " 'Apocalypto' lays to ruins all boxoffice newcomers". The Hollywood Reporter. received an A- from CinemaScore. The PG-13-rated film was, as expected, strongly attended by women, primarily those over 25.Standing by Charlie's feet, Sasha frowned. She glanced at the medic, who was feeling around Charlie's scalp. Charlie's high ponytail had been loosened and some wavy dark blond strands were in her eyes. She tried to brush them away, but the medic told her to stay still. Ember needs to leave Manhattan for Willow Hill, her small town. She inherited her grandmother’s Christmas tree farm.

One interesting thing to note is Jude Law, whose handsome, empathetic, nurturing, understanding character could best be described as lady porn, plays the sort of role usually played by a woman: the perfect person, wonderful in every way, whose main role in the story is to allow the main character to transition to a new phase in their life. Telling the story of two women who swap houses, one in Britain, one in the US, to escape love and men, they eventually find themselves falling in love with those closet to the woman's house they are living in. Let me help,” Austin said, reaching out a hand just as Charlie grabbed on to Sam’s arms and hoisted herself up. Priya swatted gently at Charlie’s full skirt, trying to rid it of the pixie dust. Sounds simple enough. But each twin has a learning curve to overcome to perform the other twin’s job. They both realize lying to people is hard, even if it is only temporary. After they swap, each twin stumbles upon that one guy who makes their heart flutter. And just when the twins develop real feelings for their new guy, they wonder what will happen when the ruse is over. Meanwhile each twin has work-related challenges they must thwart to maintain their lively hood. Anyways, I would say for me Charlie’s story arc returning to her hometown(& a small town at that) & realizing the grass isn’t always greener held my interest more between the two sisters tbh. Cass’s story arc is ok, but small town romances are almost always more my jam. Also, the temperament of Cass & her new love were a little too alike imho. I need some contrast.Priya, stop crying." As Charlie's vision improved, the makeup artist's worried face finally came into view, only a few inches from her own. Holiday romance fun, times two!…This adorable romance is the perfect countdown to Christmas. Full of sisterly love, big city and small-town hijinks, two love stories, and descriptions so delicious you’ll practically smell the gingerbread. The bar scene where Graham (Jude Law) enters looking for Amanda (Cameron Diaz), features "Let Go" by Frou Frou. [35] Sweet and Salty’s Twelve Days to Christmas Countdown,” Charlie said. “I’m okay. Really. Can I get up?” Cass is going through some stress of her own. She is trying to break off a relationship with a guy she has been with for 10 years, but he simply will not accept it. On top of that she is running her families bakery which comes with it's on set of issues. Swapping places seems like the perfect solution. Meyers's Screenplay is top-notch, with some of the dialogue oozing naturalness. Meyers's Direction, on the other-hand, is effective, as always. Cinematography is picture-perfect. Editing is rightly done. Hans Zimmer's Score is wonderful. The acting is strong and well handled. At first i found Cameron Diaz hugely annoying but as it went on i warmed to her character; she and Jude had lots of chemistry and their relationship was handled well and Graham's secret was a good twist. With lavish food descriptions, Christmas references, and only mild conflict, this is light-hearted escape read. As you would expect, the characters are charming, upbeat people. The single rascal gets what he deserves. Everybody else ends up in a happy place. The Holiday Swap is a women’s fiction novel set during Christmas. It’s a case of mistaken identity/disguise when identical twins swap towns/jobs temporarily. Holiday romance fun, times two!...This adorable romance is the perfect countdown to Christmas.
