About this deal

Deb tried to tamper down the resentment, but it curdled in her throat. Obsessed. That was what Randy was. Obsessed with fixing up that old homestead, obsessed with the land. It was always about the land. The economy was probably going to tank, and they’d end up on the hook for two properties they couldn’t afford. She wasn’t going to be able to take it much longer. The girl considered this. She took a little nibble from the bunny’s ear and sweet chocolate flooded her mouth. She took another bite and then another. She held out the rabbit to her mother and she bit off the remaining ear in one big bite. They laughed and took turns eating until all that was left was the bunny’s chocolate tail.

Not that she was scared. Abby grew up walking roads like these. County roads covered in dusty gravel or dirt and lined with cornfields. In the three months they’d lived here, she never once encountered anyone on her evening walks, which suited her just fine.

Find a Book

She currently finds herself alone, staying at a remote farmhouse where a brutal double homicide once occurred, with a vicious snowstorm bearing down on her. Heather Gudenkauf writes a superb, captivating😉 thriller that just might keep you guessing throughout! Heather Gudenkauf has been on my must-read list for years. The comments Carol Fitzgerald made about THE OVERNIGHT GUEST in the Bookreporter newsletter got me even more excited than usual for her latest thriller. I am pleased to report that not only was I not disappointed, it is easily one of the most addictive novels I have read in quite a while. There was a crime committed in the same town in August 2000 told by a different narrator. I decided to delete it all and think it's better not knowing. It's very riveting and I want to warn you in advance that you won't be able to put the book down. 😉 Synopsis: True crime writer Wylie Lark doesn’t mind being snowed in at the isolated farmhouse where she’s retreated to write her new book. A cozy fire and complete silence are all she needs.

Though this is my first book by Heather Gudenkauf, she has been writing women’s fiction and thrillers since 2008. Deeply unnerved, Wylie decides to concentrate on helping and connecting with the silent child in her home. Something extremely strange is going on, and she’s determined to protect him from whatever harm may come. But will her own fears hamper her when the crucial moment arrives? This book keeps you on the edge of your seats, pushing you bite your nails harder and scream louder!First, a crime that happened in the summer of 2000, involving two people being shot and two more going missing. Overall, it is a captivating tale with some intrigue and surprises that make the book worth reading.
