While we see who the murderer is, we don’t see the mastermind in the wind-up of this story. I assume the next book will see more of his/her machinations and then, maybe his final punishment. So, it isn’t exactly a cliffhanger, but we don’t get a total wrap-up of the story either. Her eleventh novel, The Infirmary, is a prequel story to the DCI Ryan series and is available as a major Audible Originals audio-drama starring Tom Bateman, Kevin Whately, Bertie Carvel, Hermione Norris and Alun Armstrong.

How are we on the 14th book in the series already? What a series it’s been to. Even though the 14th, this can easily be read as a standalone. For DCI Ryan his experience of the Tyne Bridge was certainly an explosive one! For ourselves we’ll never forget the time we crossed the Tyne Bridge when doing the Great North Run a few years ago. Memories that will stay with you forever. From the more historic High Level Bridge to the latest, the Millennium, these seven bridges that span the Tyne are such a part of the story of Tyneside. Recently, after surgery and while recuperating, along came the Covid 19 Virus! Self isolation added to my time spent away from family and friends. So, i decided to do more of what I like to do to make the isolation more tolerable. I love books, especially good mysteries as well as other genres. I remembered reading one of LJ Ross's DCI Ryan's books, and really enjoyed it. I have just completed a marathon of the remaining 15 out of 16 books in this series. The first novel in her Alexander Gregory Thrillers series, Impostor, was shortlisted in the British Book Awards 2020: Crime & Thriller Book of the Year. The audiobook of Impostor, narrated by Hugh Dancy, was also selected as a finalist in the New York Festivals Radio Awards, Best Fiction Audiobook of the Year Category.

This was an absolutely astounding debut. The writing was sublime, the characters so vivid and the beautiful Northumbrian coast described with such a passion that only a true Northerner can conjure. (The Book Magnet) There are also several elements that are clearly going to continue in future books - however none of these appear to have been translated into English. I'm assuming that this one didn't sell well enough to merit it. I thoroughly enjoyed following the team through their investigation and the banter they share along the way. Frank and Ryan have got to be two of my favourite characters in a series. The bond between them both is easy to see and they really make the story even more enjoyable, as Frank brings a bit of humour in whilst Ryan is kind of the strong and sexy one. Well in my head he is. Nonetheless, it is the vintage crime authors such as Agatha Christie and Daphne du Maurier, which have had the most influence on her work with her DCI Ryan Mysteries. After practicing law for nearly ten years in London, the stressful environment and the long hours began to take their toll.

nyone who knows me knows that I adore LJ Ross's DCI Ryan series. It is one of my favourite detective series and I've really grown to love the characters. This one started out brilliantly with two possibly related crimes for the detectives to solve. I am tired of DCI Ryan's wife being central to every story but I've kind of accepted that is going to be the case now. Stop off at the nearby Sill, the UK’s National Discovery Centre and have a reviving cuppa after a long walk and take in those magnificent surroundings. Thinking of a creative venture that would take her away from her job, she fell pregnant with her son. Motherhood was a very exciting prospect for L.J. Ross, though she was still unsatisfied with her career that would not give her the flexibility she desired to have as a mother. I listened to the audiobook (Whispersync) version of this book and enjoyed it very much. The narrator has a pleasant voice - but as I have mentioned before, all of the characters sound pretty much alike. Some are softer and breathier, but they all seem to have the same accents. We have a Scot, an Irish, and a Londoner, but they all seem to have the same accent - if not all of the time, most of the time.

We’re moving inland now and very much keeping that sense of history as we head along Hadrian’s Wall to encounter a world famous tree. Sycamore Gap is situated in a dramatic basin that frames it perfectly and is probably one of the most photographed and painted trees in all the world. Many remember it’s appearance in the 1991 film, Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, where it’s location in the film is rather off the actual mark. LJ Ross (Louise Ross) was born in a village in Northumberland called Ponteland where she also grew up. She attended Darras Hall primary school, then Dame Allan’s School in Farnham, and then and Central Newcastle High School. Once she graduated from high school, LJ Ross moved to London to study law at King’s College, where she got a master’s degree in law. The sixth in the hugely enjoyable DI Ben Kitto series, set on the Scilly Isles. Someone from Ben Kitto's past is about to resurface, and being on an island, miles out to sea might not be enough to keep him safe. Meanwhile on the island, old bones are literally dug up, and turn into a cold case from decades earlier. You can see why some were dropped but others are hilarious (the Where The Heart Is spoof is superb).
