An anime television series adaptation was announced in the April issue of Monthly GFantasy magazine on March 18, 2019. [29] Right now, I would say I'm on the fence about continuing, but not because I disliked this story! I really really really enjoyed this! I just don't like reading books that make me feel spooked at night (even when I read during the day as was the case of reading this volume LOL). It’s exactly as I remembered it (having watched the anime nearly 2 years ago now). I adored the anime and wanted to read the manga as I know anime adaptations can cut things out/change bits so I am very excited to see what the manga has to offer. And Hanako-kun! He was SO different than I expected! Like NOTHING I expected! LOL! He has such a fun personality, even though I was like HE IS THIS DANGEROUS!?! when a certain character reveals one of his secrets! Granted, I SHOULD know that because seeing him act when protecting Nene makes it super obvious he is not a weak supernatural being.

Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun ( Japanese: 地縛少年花子くん, Hepburn: Jibaku Shōnen Hanako-kun) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by AidaIro. It has been serialized in Square Enix's magazine Monthly GFantasy since 2014. It has been collected in twenty tankōbon volumes as of August 2023. The story follows Nene Yashiro, a first-year high school student fond of occult stories, who ardently desires a boyfriend. For this, she tries to invoke Hanako-san from the toilet. Now anyone who has even a fairly decent passing knowledge of anime/manga or even video games taking place with Japanese highschoolers will know there is often a common idea that schools will have "seven mysteries." Why seven? Most likely this is because shichi (the Japanese word for seven) is uncomfortably close to shi (the word for death).

The Seven Wonders of Kamome Academy are the seven most famous supernatural rumors in the school, and their corresponding supernaturals serve to maintain the students' safety from murderous supernaturals. Leading them is Hanako, who is the Seventh and most famous school Wonder. Each one has their own Boundary, a divine yorishiro, and an aspect of the school that they control. Their Boundary is a section of the school where their power is the strongest. Boundaries are the 'sea' between the Near Shore, where the living reside, and the Far Shore, where other apparitions exist and thus contain a small amount of water on the ground. A divine yorishiro is an item they cherish that acts as the source of their power. When a yorishiro is destroyed (by removing its seal), the Wonder's designated seat as a School Wonder and their power is removed.
