About this deal

Complete 30 clean & jerks at 60/42.5kg as fast as possible. Harder than it sounds—and it doesn’t sound easy! M – What is your why? Why do you put yourself through it each day? Do you have goals you want to achieve? P -There’s a great quote from Zig Ziglar which fits this question – “You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great”. So I would just encourage them to give it a go, you don’t need to be fit to start, starting will get you fit. I think anyone who starts CrossFit will be surprised at how tough it is but also surprised at how rewarding it is and at themselves and what they’re actually capable of. There is nothing better than watching new members grow in confidence, strength and fitness over the months M– What advice would you give anyone wanting to start CrossFit but is either unsure or nervous? We get people all the time saying they need to get fit first or they could never do what we do? Any advice for those people? PS stands for Power Snatch. The Power Snatch is a snatch without a squat. Many top CrossFit workouts include the Power Snatch, or something similar.

A Tabata Interval is a workout of 8 intervals that alternates 20 seconds of max rep work with 10 seconds of rest. The entire time adds up to 4 minutes and it is scored using the lowest interval rep count, so you have to try your best on each interval! Clean and jerk. A common Olympic lift, the clean and jerk is a combination of the Clean, referenced above, and an additional lift, the jerk. After completing the Clean, athletes lift the bar overhead. The other thing is, everyone starts at the beginning and of course there will be people who are naturally gifted and can walk into the gym and just start throwing around heavy weights or pulling off gymnastics movements at will (well annoying! ) but even they will struggle with some movements and workouts. There are so many different lifts and movements and no two days are the same, everybody has strengths and weaknesses and CrossFit has a funny way of levelling the field.

PU usually refers to pull-ups in CrossFit, but can also refer to push-ups in some cases depending on context. TTB is short for toes to bar. When hanging from a bar, athletes bend only their waist and raise their toes to touch the bar. Yes, it’s very difficult. The CrossFit Open is essentially a virtual version of the CrossFit Games. It allows users to register online and compete at local CrossFit boxes. Oh, and I’m also a part time member (soon to be full time!) of Saturday’s endurance class! I have only attended a few of these classes so far (2 of which were test weeks – THAT BIKE!!) but they’re great for working on your engine and I will be attending a lot more regularly in the new year. Paralettes are portable parallel bars that stand at a height of about eight inches. They are used to add complexity to certain (already) difficult movements such as handstand push ups.

A MetCon is a Metabolic Conditioning workout. MetCons are typically shorter workouts but they are designed to elevate you to a very high heart rate in a short period of time. They are used to train for stamina and conditioning. A double-under is when a jump rope passes under your feet twice with only one jump. It can be quite the challenge, especially if you have to do a lot of them! I also do the Wednesday lifting class which I love. A great class for working on your technique and banter Owned and operated by founder Greg Glassman, the first CrossFit gym is located in Santa Cruz, CA. The gym is highly respected, and serves as the foundation for a great deal of daily workouts and methodologies.

A competitor at the CrossFit Games. These are professional competitive athletes that are the best in the sport. I do not advocate the use of scales – they’re called a “sad step” for a reason and are not an accurate measurement of the path to good health (for example, I’m 10kg heavier and a helluvalot stronger and healthier since I started CrossFit). However I do find taking some basic body measurements, ideally using a tape measure or skin fold callipers, a motivating benchmark (you can use an online body fat calculator to run the numbers for you. I don’t take these measurements too often – maybe every 2-4 weeks. They’re especially useful when taking on a new fitness routine like a Couch to 5k so you can craft your progress. Juicing

Here’s our helpful guide to CrossFit terminology. Learn some of the popular CrossFit terminology you will encounter at CrossFit Sale Moor: P -I joined M Squared in September 2017, that was my introduction to CrossFit, but I only did a couple of sessions then had a holiday at the end of September and started properly in October 2017. So… 15 months so far.

Timetables

Lisa tries so hard and always pushed herself. Always wants to get better and has PT sessions alongside classes to help with her technique. She gets involved in classes she hates (like endurance) just so she can improve. and she has…..massively.
