You can only run the built-in diagnostics when the video cable is unplugged and the monitor is in self-test mode. Dell's newest entry into the touch-enabled fray, the Dell P2314T , is one of the best equipped mid-sized models to hit our labs. It uses 10-point projected capacitive touch technology that provides excellent gesture and cursor control and its IPS panel delivers accurate colors and solid grayscale reproduction. It'll cost you a good deal more than you'd pay for a traditional 23-inch IPS monitor, but if you're ready to realize the full potential of Windows 8, the P2314T is an excellent choice. If you're using DVI connection, ensure that a Dual Link DVI cable is used (Supplied together with the monitor). For all the features the Dell Professional P2314Ht has we can all probably agree it does miss a HDMI port for the most up to date hardware. That would also remove the need for any additional adapters and/or cables. Perhaps some built-in speakers would be a nice touch as well.

Key specs

The P2314Ht 23 inch monitor isn’t one of Dell’s premium ‘UltraSharp’ monitors with the higher res screens and ultra thin bezels but it does have thinner bezels than we have seen on other similar spec models and slightly curved corners. The stand also has built-in cable tidy function to it which will keep cables all going in the same direction.

Change the Color Setting modein the Color SettingsOSD to Graphicsor Video, depending on the application. Ensure that the video cable connecting the monitor and the computer is properly connected and secure.

Try different Color Preset Settings in Color Settings OSD. Adjust R/G/B value in Color Settings OSD if the Color Management is turned Off. We really like the slightly larger screen and multiple video connections on offer with the P2314Ht monitor. Not only are you offered a choice of 3 different video connections, as a user you are able to fully adjust the monitor to suit your needs. Something perhaps overlooked is the variety of settings available from the on-screen display. That menu will tell you the level of energy use as well as offering some more dynamic energy saving options.

Manage power consumption wisely with PowerNap, which you can enable through the Dell Display Manager to either dim the monitor to the minimum brightness level or put it into sleep mode when it is not in use. Your monitor has a built-in diagnostic tool that helps to determine if the screen abnormality you are experiencing is an inherent problem with the monitor, or with the computer and video card. To run the built-in diagnostics: Color accuracy was quite good. On the CIE chart below, the boxes represent the ideal coordinates for red, green, and blue, and the dots represent the actual measured coordinates. As shown, red and blue color accuracy is spot-on and green is only slightly skewed (but still well within an acceptable range). Color swatches from the DisplayMate Color Scales test appeared evenly saturated and there was no evidence of tinting in the 64 Step grayscale. The P2314T did a good job of displaying all steps of the 64-Step Grayscale test, but as was the case with the Dell S2340T, the dark grays could have been darker. Viewing angle performance was outstanding; there was no loss of color fidelity and the picture remained bright from any angle.Some USB devices like external portable HDD require higher electric current; connect the device directly to the computer system.
