Before we get too far into what airbrushes are worth buying, let’s get through some questions many people ask. Can You Airbrush Miniatures? I'm new to airbrushing and after doing a ton of research decided to go with the Ultra as my first airbrush. This brush does it all, from priming to details I'm having a blast painting my minis with this airbrush and I imagine it will carry me for a while.The ULTRA 2024 debuts our three engineered innovations to painting successfully with the airbrush, straight out of the box. Start Control trigger design – a full double action trigger system, but engineered to eliminate common beginner mistakes. Colour Control – a five step system which gives the perfect trigger settings for Priming, Basing and Glazing, and the three stages of Highlighting. The radical new ULTRA 2024 – the first airbrush engineered to teach the perfect double action trigger technique to first time painters, by design. It’s a world first! Being used to the previous 'brush, the ratio was around 40% paint (Humbrol enamel) to 60% thinners, which was sprayed onto a scrap model first, to test the ratio, and get at least a little accustomed to the new 'brush, with the pressure set at around 15 psi. The ratio was therefore adjusted, to around 50 / 50, and sprayed again, with a more acceptable result, and this also suggested that this airbrush can handle an even 'heavier' paint / thinners ratio, and a lower pressure if desired or required.
Great choice to start with! High quality airbrush for an affordable price. Same self-centering nozzle used on the higher rank models (exchangeable with Evolution, Grafo, Infinity). It will support your first sessions, and it retains and builds on our reputation for creating highly refined, yet reliable and user-friendly airbrushes which can paint to the very highest level of artistry. This is the airbrush I truly wished I had learned on FIRST, as I am sure with the optional upgrades I showcase in our review video, it will last a very long time for any hobbyist! After some problems with the budget-priced but reliable AB series airbrush I've used for some time, due to damage presumably caused by the AK Xtreme Metal paints, I decided to go "up market" a bit, and buy a more 'refined' airbrush. Yes, I've had similar experience with every brush I've used, and it's relatively common to most, if not all airbrushes of this type, even the most expensive.

It is immediately obvious, by the 'feel', weight and balance, that this is a quality, precision instrument, and closer examination confirms this. The body is smooth, chrome plated and substantial, with the trigger action being positive and very smooth, and using machined parts (many 'brushes use pressed components here). The needle is stainless steel, and the atomising nozzle cap is of the perforated type, which prevents paint build up. This can easily be removed, without tools, along with the nozzle, for deep cleaning or fitting the alternative head / nozzle supplied with the kit. The Patriot’s innovative precision design is enjoyed by crafters, artists, and hobbyists; Dual action, internal mix, gravity feed Still with the 50/50 paint ratio, the pressure was reduced slightly, to around 12 psi indicated, and a light coat sprayed overall onto the F-5E model, varying the trigger between 'light' and about half full travel. The paint went on beautifully, with a smooth, even flow, and no struggling or spitting. Comprehensive accessories and nozzle sizes from 0.2 and 1.2 mm make the Colani particularly flexible for applications ranging from fine retouching to large surface painting. The dependent double function enables particularly fine work.
