About this deal

University of Tennessee football and baseball star Hunter “Dodo” Lane darted in and out of professional ball in less than 24 months, yet still ascended to the major leagues. The infielder became a “one-hit wonder” with a 1-for-15 performance for the 1924 Boston Braves, before opening a successful politically-involved law practice in the Memphis area.

I was really excited for this book and I had been anticipating it ever since the author popped up on my fyp on tiktok. I was hyped. Mar and Hunter as they progressed brought out the best in each other. Mar became more self confident about every aspect of herself and Hunter’s dark cloud started to dissipate. Is it greedy of me that I want more of them? Cause I really do! I loved Winter & Payton, and found them to be great women I wish we got to see just a little bit more of. This book was marketed all over TikTok as something COMPLETELY different. This is barely a romance. The author made it seem as if Hunter was going to be some avenging hero for our FMC, after a shitty ex boyfriend. Turns out Hunter was even worse IMO.i was really excited about this book because of the excerpts the author had shared on her tiktok account. the excerpts were intriguing but the book itself was underwhelming.

But the problem is that I asked her if this book had other women drama and she literally said : don’t worry none of that I hate it…….. so dear author thank you for lying. First, Hunter is a tool. Literally found zero redeeming qualities about him throughout the entire book. His entire personality is drunk driving & using women as toys. He decides he hates Marley on sight simply because she’s from NYC? He is straight juvenile & rude. He demeans & insults Marley constantly, without even knowing her. He’s a total jerk to his stepmother for absolutely no reason & is so self centered it made me cringe. In After the Fall, Lane is released from prison, as Bell posted her bail due to her manipulation of her. Later, Lane was shot to death by the brother of a pair of deceased patients of hers, who wanted revenge for her mistreatment of both his sister and wife. She was killed instantly. In mid-August, he was sent down to the Pittsfield (Massachusetts) Hillies, also in the Eastern League. 28 Lane ended the Eastern League campaign playing in eight games for Worcester and 24 for Pittsfield, with a combined .254 average. 29 Nonetheless, in September the Braves exercised their option on him for 1925. 30Commodores Play Two Baseball Games with U.T. in Knoxville,” Nashville (Tennessee) Banner, January 23, 1923: 10. Heading into 1923, it was said that Lane “will have three branches open to him—baseball, coaching, and law.” 13 In March 1923, outfielder and team captain Lane was denied another year of baseball eligibility for the University. 14 So he signed a new pro contract with the Pioneers. 15 In the same month, he was granted a state license to practice law. 16

one thing i hate more than… peas. or the texture of broccoli. IS DOORMAT WOMEN AND HOE-ING MEN. guess what this book had? 😠 GUESS 😠 I’m sorry but I was really excited for this book and I was so happy when I finally found out it came out but reading it really let me down. It’s so awful. The author framed it as some deep story about grief and overcoming alcoholism that culminated in some great moral development. It was definitely not that. There were multiple time where I was just yelling at Hunter to just stop being mean:/ He was very rude but that is what made him so real. His pain and suffering really got to you, so you understand why he is the way he is. And for him to then suddenly judge the man towards the end of the book for also driving drunk, felt very hypocritical.

James Hunter Lane Sr. died on September 13, 1994, at the age of 94, at his home in Memphis, from heart disease. 36 At the time he was the second-oldest living former Brave behind Tim McNamara. 37 He is buried at the Elmwood Cemetery in Memphis. He was survived by his wife of 67 years, Lucille, and three daughters, Mary, Camille, and Lucille, and his son, James Hunter Lane Jr. After, Nic finds a man with a grocery delivery on her front porch, which he insists on giving her. She threatens to call the police, he wishes her goodnight and calls her by her full name. It is assumed that Lane hired him to do so. [6] I liked Hunters character development and how obsessed he was with Marley. I did not like how much and how detailed OW encounters there were, it was hard to imagine this playboy detached guy going to obsessed mode for Marley in a matter of a few letters, it just didn’t have the grovel or emotional impact I wanted to see. Marley also did not have the character development I wanted, she spent a lot of the book saying how she won’t make decisions based on a man, but all her decisions were. The last thing that really took me out of the story was the POVs from Adam and Dex, it just wasn’t my thing.

Lane and Randolph spend time together at his apartment, happy together. However, Randolph is presented with evidence of Lane’s criminal behavior, and the FBI have been informed, who will soon have a warrant to search Lane’s clinic. Randolph questions Lane about what she’s been up to, and she tearfully nearly confesses to her poor treatment of patients. He tells Lane to get rid of the evidence at her clinic, but it is revealed that he let her get rid of the evidence at the same time as the FBI arrives to arrest her. [2] Professional [ ] Conrad Hawkins [ ] Marley’s parents & the PI. The purpose here is really to give Marley something to make Hunter not hate her, and also to bring her brother there before the accident at the end. The PI does nothing for us. The parents are nothing to us. Dr. Lane Hunter is the top oncologist in the state of Georgia. She is perceived to be brilliant, warm and a strong leader who spends every waking moment tending to her patients. [1] However, it is later revealed that she is a cold, ruthless person who tries to extort high amounts of money from patient insurance payouts for their treatments, even when it is ethically questionable. The MC, Marley, should might as well hold a sign saying “I’m a door mat” since she loves getting stepped on. I sought out validation from people who didn't like me. I gave second chances to people who didn't deserve it. I turned a blind eye to manipulation because I mistook it for affection."If it wasn’t for the lateness of the hour I would have completed this book in one sitting. You know how else I knew I loved this book? I had an intense frown on my face (and constantly being asked are you ok!?!) because I was so engrossed with Mar and Hunter. Next, I love their relationship sm oh my oh my. 😭😭😩😩 also the bookshelf scene... damn. "You said, you liked romance, didn't you Bambi?" Devon is a fan of Lane's work and shows some desire to specialize in oncology. He becomes embroiled in the plan to expose Lane when Nic shares her discoveries of Lane's insurance fraud scheme that includes over-treating her patients and falsifying cancer diagnoises. I especially was not a fan of the drunk driving in this. It wasn't just a one time occurrence, it was a daily and intentional act that spanned 4 years. The fact that everyone in that town tolerated it?! And not once did the bartender take away his keys? That kind of behavior is not okay. I don't care if he is still grieving or whatever, putting your life AND other's lives in danger is not right. omg just remembered hated him so much in the beginning like rude asf for no reason and him saying that she demanded them to fix her car… WHEN SHE LITERALLY DID NOT WANT ANY OF THAT TO HAPPEN LIKE SHE JUST WANTED TO CALL A CAB.
