On the other hand, this is only FHD resolution, it’s not a very bright panel, so it might not suffice outdoors or in brightness environments, and it’s not wide-gamut either, so might not do for certain color-accurate workloads. But it’s still a fair option for this sort of mid-tier laptop, even at the higher price tag of the 3060/3070 configurations. All in all, the Legion 5 is one of the best-value mid-tier laptops of this generation, and a potential recommendation in this 3060 configuration over here in Europe where it’s very aggressively priced. That’s not the case everywhere, though, as the same configuration is expensive in other regions. W (~6 h 6 min of use)– 1080p Netflix fullscreen video in Edge, Better Battery Mode, screen at 70%, Wi-Fi ON; The speaker system in the Legion 5 is good enough, but hardly exceptional. It can’t compare with the Asus TUF Dash F15, since it has smaller drivers, but there’s a reasonable amount of volume and the sound is tight and punchy. The absence of any form of bass is the biggest issue, though, which is something the pre-installed Nahimic control panel can only do so much to ameliorate.

It perhaps doesn’t feel as nice as the Legion 5 Pro or Legion 7 lineups as this is entirely made out of plastic, but with a rougher finishing that feels stronger than the kind used on the previous Legion 5 generation, which Id’ expect should age well. It does show smudges and fingerprints on this dark-blue variant that we have here.In the BIOS, I was able to OC the GPU with some predefined settings. Here are the new results from adding +100Mhz: W (~6-7 h of use) – 1080p fullscreen video on Youtube in Edge, Quiet Mode, screen at 60%, Wi-Fi ON; The screen is ok on this model. It’s bright enough and has decent contrast. The viewing angles are also good, although there is a little bit of light shift when you hit the moderate angles. It’s not distracting at all when looking at it head-on. This also gives you a healthy boost to your fps while playing games, and by healthy, we mean very noticeable. Games just play smoother in a way that other "performance" modes on other systems don't quite achieve.

The Ryzen 7 6800H and 150 W GeForce RTX 3070 Ti are each about 10 percent faster than the Ryzen 7 5800H and 140 W GeForce RTX 3070 on last year's Legion 5 Pro. The 2022 refresh is therefore merely just a minor upgrade over the 2021 model with no major external or internal changes. Quiet mode isn’t too shabby either, which is a good reason to opt for the 3070, if keeping noise levels low is your style. Still, it would have been nice if Lenovo included a QHD screen as an option. I think it would have paired better with the RTX 3070 for sure. The legion 5 doesn’t even try to be compact and portable by any means, either. The laptop weighs 2.4 kilos in this tested configuration with the 80Wh battery, and you must also consider the massive 300W charger included with this configuration, which weighs an extra 1.15 kilos. If you need a thin-and-light full-size laptop that would be easy to lug around every day to work and school, this is not it. Switching over to the Balanced profile leads to the Ryzen 5 stabilizing at 45W of power. The fans spin at 43-44 dB in this case, and temperatures stabilize in the low-80s. This series allows full control over the RAM, storage slots, and WiFi module. There are 2x RAM slots and 2x SSD slots on the Legion 5, both on the 60 and 80 Wh configurations. Our review unit comes with 16 GB of RAM in dual-channel; the included memory is SR, but the kind with faster latencies, as shown above. The IO is mostly lined on the rear of the 5 Pro, like on all the other Legion models. There’s everything you’ll need here, except for Thunderbolt support or a card-reader. In fact, you’ll only get a card-reader on the 17-inch Legion 5, but not on any other 2021 Legion. As a side note, the specs hint that USB-C charging is now supported by both the Legion 5 and 5 Pro lineups, unlike with the 2020 generations. UL's PCMark 10 primarily simulates a variety of real-world productivity and content-creation workflows to measure overall performance for office-centric tasks such as word processing, spreadsheeting, web browsing, and videoconferencing. We also run PCMark 10's Full System Drive test to assess the load time and throughput of a laptop's storage. Anyway, here’s what we got on our unit, with the screen’s brightness set at around 120 nits (~60 brightness) and 165 Hz refresh. As for its performance, the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro has two options for the CPU which is either an AMD Ryzen 5 5600H or Ryzen 7 5800H. There are also choices of GPUs from an Nvidia GeForce RTX3050 all the way up to an RTX 3070 for this model. In terms of its gaming experience, this laptop can be considered as an excellent machine. However, there is more to this device than just its gaming performance as the Ryzen 7 5800H and 16GB of RAM (3200MHz) is obviously great for other productivity applications too. As for the battery, the Legion 5 Pro has a respectable 80 Whr battery that can last for 6 hours and 15 minutes. Overall, it is a great device to be explored, depending on the need and preference of the user. It’s a little small though, and being on a 17” model really makes it stand out as a missed opportunity. This is yet another area that Lenovo got lazy on, probably due to cost and the fact that the 17” models aren’t popular enough to warrant more customized components.

FHD+ (1920 x 1200) IPS, 500 nits, 165Hz refresh rate with OverDrive, 100% sRGB, up to VESA DisplayHDR™ 400 Certified, Dolby Vision® support, NVIDIA® G-SYNC™ support, 16:10 aspect ratio These graphics cards are able to play the latest and most demanding games in high resolutions and full detail settings with enabled Anti-Aliasing. The Delta-E color accuracy score was also quite good at 0.3. (0 is perfect.) And with 116% of the sRGB color spectrum, the Legion 5 Pro has a balanced color profile. That translates well to games, which look rich and vibrant. You’ll also have more color-accurate photos and videos if you choose to edit them on this laptop. Metro: Exodus (1080p): 132 fps (Low); 71 fps (Ultra, no ray tracing); 61 fps (ultra with ray tracing enabled)

The Legion 5 Pro has two options for the CPU: an AMD Ryzen 5 5600H or Ryzen 7 5800H. You also have a choice of GPUs from an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 all the way up to an RTX 3070. My review unit had the Ryzen 7 5800H and RTX 3070. NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU: High-End laptop graphics card based on the Ampere GA104 chip.
