About this deal

Fans of the the classic 90s sitcom and standup comedian legend Jerry Seinfeld are in for a treat with the official reveal of the LEGO 21328 Seinfeld, released as part of the LEGO Ideas theme!

Brent is quoted as saying “I loved Seinfeld in the 90s and recently re-watched them all. I thought it was a travesty that a LEGO Seinfeld set didn’t exist so I made an effort to resolve that and make the best rendition of Jerry’s Apartment and the gang that I could. The biggest challenge was trying to cram as much detail from the show into the kitchen, all the cupboards, items in the cupboard and on the bench-tops. But I am very proud of how it turned out.” That aside, the finished model is incredibly accurate, even down to the offset angle of the kitchen counter and apartment walls. It really is quite impressive, especially when comparing the finished model to the real-life set. Everything from the colour of the kitchen counters to the style of desk chair, the paraphernalia that’s on the shelf, the colours of the walls and furniture, and even the design of the doors are all absolutely spot on. — Characters —The LEGO Ideas platform is a great way for fans to share their ideas with us and their passion for a particular theme. Make a Kramer-style entrance directly into the cozy and well-appointed living room and enjoy a seat on the ultra-comfy couch with friends George, Elaine and Kramer and even comedy nemesis Newman, if you so desire… Seinfeld is a classic sit-com and a cultural icon that was huge in the 90s and still stands the test of time today. The combination of the quirky characters and the nostalgia of the show is the perfect fit for LEGO and when we saw the concept we just knew we had to make it. I am so excited to see how this has been brought this to life in LEGO form and the attention to detail from the furniture to some of the minifigures accessories.” Created by Australia-based fan designer Brent Waller, it includes the titular comedian's New York City apartment and a buildable stand-up stage.

However, the cover of Kramer's book about coffee tables could certainly have been recreated more faithfully, capturing the distinctive marbled design which appears onscreen. The metallic silver decoration across the rug is attractive though, comprising ten printed 1x2 tiles. This dark orange table complements the aforementioned drawers and the telephone looks good, relating to several popular scenes. Today’s reveal date, the 5th of July also marks the anniversary of the first episode of the iconic comedy show. The LEGO Ideas Seinfeld set’s release date will be on 21 July 2021 for LEGO VIP members, ahead of a general release date of 1 August 2021.The kitchen area includes wonderful detail, surpassing other sections of the apartment in that respect. The sand blue cabinets and angular arrangement of different units appears fantastic, corresponding precisely with the television series. Smaller furnishings, such as the dark blue stools beside the counter, are also provided and subtly connected to the floor using 1x1 round tiles with vertical shafts. Central Perk and 10292 The Friends Apartments both incorporate studio lights, which return here. These lights appear slightly more advanced than their predecessors though, with more substantial support rigs underneath. The white bulbs look superb and the angles of each light can be adjusted easily, depending on how you wish to display this model. I loved Seinfeld in the 90s and recently re-watched them all. I thought it was a travesty that a LEGO Seinfeld set didn’t exist so I made an effort to resolve that and make the best rendition of Jerry’s Apartment and the gang that I could,” said Waller in a statement. “ The biggest challenge was trying to cram as much detail from the show into the kitchen, all the cupboards, items in the cupboard and on the bench-tops. But I am very proud of how it turned out. ”

Seinfeld’s apartment has a rather unusual shape to it, with a number of odd, angled walls. Rather than building these directly on to the base, sections are built as large, hinged sub-assemblies that attach to just two small areas of the floor, swinging into position. It’s an unusual technique, but seems to work. From the front, anyway: the rear and sides look ungainly and not at all attractive. It’s not a large negative, but it does impact the overall aesthetic of the set as a complete model, as it means it can only really be displayed from the front. Sitcoms have provided excellent source material for LEGO products recently, especially within the Ideas theme. 21328 Seinfeld exhibits marvellous detail and countless references to the renowned series, arguably surpassing earlier sitcom-based models in these regards! LEGO fan designer, Brent, who is the co-founder of a video games company, loved LEGO as a kid but was re-introduced to it as an adult and combined with his skill as a 3D artist he set about designing his own LEGO creations - including creating the Seinfeld set. Talking about the design, Brent said, “I loved Seinfeld in the 90s and recently re-watched them all. I thought it was a travesty that a LEGO Seinfeld set didn’t exist so I made an effort to resolve that and make the best rendition of Jerry's Apartment and the gang that I could. The biggest challenge was trying to cram as much detail from the show into the kitchen, all the cupboards, items in the cupboard and on the bench-tops. But I am very proud of how it turned out.”Five minifigures are included in 21328 Seinfeld: Jerry Seinfeld, George Costanza, Elaine Benes, fan-favourite Cosmo Kramer and perpetual thorn in Jerry’s side, Newman. While their outfits don’t reference a particular episode or moment from the series, they are still dressed in appropriate attire. There’s also interviews with fan designer Brent Waller and the LEGO team responsible for turning Brent’s idea into a reality. It’s disappointingly not as detailed as some other sets have been, and considering the cultural importance and influence the show has had on modern comedies, it feels like more could have been said. But we’re not here for a history lesson: 21328 Seinfeld is all about the build. It's been 33 years since Seinfeld first aired in the US and to celebrate the – admittedly rather random – milestone, LEGO released a set last year that honours the beloved '90s sitcom, which you can now grab at a reduced price just in time for Festivus!

Following the release of 21302 The Big Bang Theory, 21319 Central Perk established certain design features that have subsequently remained consistent. This model accordingly includes familiar angled walls with studio lights, measuring nearly 32cm across and 18cm deep, which is reasonably consistent with previous sitcom-based LEGO sets. The biggest challenge was trying to cram as much detail from the show into the kitchen, all the cupboards, items in the cupboard and on the bench-tops. But I am very proud of how it turned out."The set’s television studio set design keeps the same consistency as the F.R.I.E.N.D.S Central Perk set, Big Bang Theory (long retired), and the recently released F.R.I.E.N.D.S. Apartments set, and is now the 4th TV sitcom set – LEGO are clearly starting a theme here. Viewing the apartment from behind reveals the surprising complexity of the kitchen, where the sand blue cabinets and microwave are ingeniously built into the external wall. The mismatched colours and conspicuous bulges are quite unsightly, but that appears consistent with the source material and earlier sitcom-based sets, where detail has invariably been focused inside. Some of the instantly recognisable features include: the kitchen with buildable counter, fridge, microwave, oven and more; living room with a sofa; tables; an office; a buildable stage for stand-up comedian Jerry and a Festivus pole, collectively inspiring memories of comical moments from the show’s 180 episodes! The LEGO Ideas platform is a great way for fans to share their ideas with us and their passion for a particular theme,” said Federico Begher, VP of Global Marketing at The LEGO Group. “ Not only did Brent have a personal desire to create this build, other fans agree and he gained the necessary 10,000 community votes needed for us to consider creating it into a product.”
