After splitting with bassist Damon Minchella, the band continued to record and perform. Releases in 2001 ( Mechanical Wonder), 2003 ( North Atlantic Drift), 2005 ( A Hyperactive Workout for the Flying Squad) and 2007 ( On the Leyline) continued the trend of releasing new material every two years. One For The Road collates various live performances from 2004 with two new songs and a loving interpretation of the Small Faces “Wham Bam Thank You Mam”. On 22 June 2016, the band officially announced that Scottish musician Raymond Meade would be joining the band permanently on bass, following the departures of both Dan Sealey and Andy Bennett. Meade had already played live with the band since the start of the year. The following year, in 2016, the band announced several special concerts around the UK to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their 1996 hit album Moseley Shoals. They also played several dates in Australia for the first time in their career. One from the Modern was released in 1999, and peaked in the UK Albums Chart at No.4. The record spawned three top 40 singles, " Profit in Peace", " So Low" and " July". [4]

The protest song "Profit in Peace" was the first single, with "So Low" and then a double release of "I Am the News"/"July". The song "Soul Driver" is dedicated to Paul Weller, who mentored the band. On the quirkily titled A Hyperactive Workout for the Flying Squad OCS were forced to replace Minchella and the other three came up with the goods, aside from covering George Harrison’s “Wah Wah”(from his All Things Must Pass masterpiece) and Keith Anderson’s “My Time”. Another strong disc, this contains “Free My Name”, which restored them to the charts while the production skills of Dave Eringa (Manic Street Preachers, Idlewild, Kylie Minogue) kept them honest and fresh.
