About this deal

This is approachable, balanced, fairly flavourful with a couple of interesting minor chords that titillate the palate (I nosed this again and again and I couldn’t shake the image of roasted peanuts and peanut butter from my head). Score: 7/10 Each edition — to be released in batches every year — will be a marriage of Ardbeg matured in American oak casks and Ardbeg matured in secondary casks sourced from around the world. The first release, Ardbeg Smoketrails Manzanilla Edition, marries whisky matured in American oak casks with whisky matured in Manzanilla Sherry casks from Sanlúcar de Barrameda on Spain’s Atlantic coast. Nose We may, but are not under any obligation, to release new functionalities and tools or other features for the Service every now and then. Any new functionalities, tools and features shall be part of and governed by the Terms from the moment they are launched and/or available. Further, we reserve the right to modify, change, discontinue the Service, add or remove features, update the Service, change its appearance, temporarily and permanently, at any time, in whole or any part thereof. The range has been designed to explore how different casks impact the signature Ardbeg whisky style. Finish: Plumes of fennel and pine billow up, leaving a long, lingering trail of carbolic soap, aniseed and leather.

Given the sheer number of operational whisky distilleries, releasing a Manzanilla Sherry -aged whisky isn’t something particularly revolutionary these days. That said, I’d point out that amongst the main styles of Sherry, Manzanilla is one of the lightest and driest, with low sugar levels and often a tangy, yeasty, savoury character. These influences and flavours are significantly different from the more common types of rich or sweet Sherry used for whisky maturation, the likes of Oloroso or Pedro Ximénez. Ardbeg recently announced the launch of the Ardbeg Smoketrails collection of single malts available exclusively at travel retail shops and the Ardbeg Distillery Visitor Center. The release from the new series is Ardbeg Smoketrails Manzanilla Edition. It combines malt whisky matured in Ardbeg American oak casks, and Manzanilla Sherry casks from Sanlúcar de Barrameda in Spain.Nothing in the Terms shall exclude or limit our liability for fraudulent misrepresentation or for death or personal injury resulting from gross negligence or willful misconduct by us.

(“Whiskybase”, “we” or “us”, company details below) offers a whisky enthusiasts online platform that provides its members access to the most comprehensive, transparent and trusted resource of whisky bottles and allows and stimulates its members to contribute information about whisky bottles to the platform (“Service”). Saying the sky is the limit to the imagination of Moët Hennessy’s marketers is an understatement. They are, after all, the first Scotch to be matured in space. The Ardbeg Committee, the exclusive club of Ardbeg devotees, was the first to receive the thrilling news in their newsletter. This second edition transports whisky lovers to the picturesque Rhône region in southern France, celebrated for its coveted Côte Rôtie red wine casks. What makes this expression truly remarkable is its maturation process, where it spent time maturing in these special casks before being married with classic bourbon barrels. Nose: Deep, pungent flavours take to the air, a curious combination of tar, saddle soap, pine resin and Brazil nuts. A very aromatic whisky, with lovely herbal notes and a hint of moist peat bog, while storm-churned sea spray soars overhead. With water, some chocolatey notes appear, along with a touch of engine oil. One of the defining characteristics of Ardbeg whisky is its distinctive peaty flavor profile. The distillery is famous for using malted barley that is dried with peat smoke, imparting a robust smokiness and earthy character to the whisky. The intensity of the peat in Ardbeg's expressions can be quite powerful, making their whisky a favorite among those who enjoy a bold and complex dram. The Smoketrails series by Ardbeg is a testament to the distillery's commitment to pushing the boundaries of flavor and exploring the influence of casks from around the world on the signature smoky character of their whiskies. Each edition offers travelers a unique opportunity to delve into the diverse world of whisky maturation, making it an adventure for the senses and a journey through taste. Then there’s an even more outlandish campaign that hardcore fans couldn’t have anticipated. Ardbeg’s core range expressions now have a sci-fi graphic novel that explains their “origin stories”.

The Ardbeg Distillery has been in Islay since 1815 and tells of almost two centuries of turbulent whiskey history. Ardbeg was founded by John McDougall and bought 20 years later by Glasgow merchant Thomas Buchanan. Under new ownership it was very prosperous and by 1877 employed nearly a third of the islanders. Despite its ups and downs over time, the distillery lives on to this day and the stories of whiskey from days gone by resonate in every sip, even with Ardbeg Smoketrails!
