About this deal

Here’s a finished set of The Thorns of the Briar Queen, which I swear I will use one day, but until then I enjoy them on the shelf.

Firstly, prime I primed the models in Wraithbone spray. Most of the models up to now I’ve fully assembled and painted, though there may be some of the larger ones like the Mortis Engine I might sub-assemble/paint

Navigation menu

A niche utility unit that doesn’t see much play. They can attempt to unbind a spell as a wizard does, gaining +1 to the unbind roll for every 4 models. And that’s it. You likely won’t have enough models to get more than +1 to unbinding without paying more points than they’re really worth. While they can also eat an endless spell, it comes at the cost of the unit taking D3 mortal wounds, something you cannot afford on a unit of one wound models. You have plenty of casters, let them do the heavy lifting. Dreadscythe Harridans

Used mostly in vast groups as vanguard of Nagash’s armies, small detachments are extremely useful for delicate tasks thanks to their ethereal status and resistance to damage. The Condemned are lead by Spirit Torments, hosts composed of the Chainghasts and Chainrasps, into battle - rampaging through the ranks of the foe. [3e] Such hosts are often the spear-tip of Nighthaunt assaults or assigned to forlorn hopes. [3f] Regardless of how you build your force, you will want to add Chainrasps and Spirit Hosts. Chainrasps for the swarm and Spirit Host as the hard hitters. You can also start your Nighthaunt force with just Chainrasps and a Spirit Hosts box and add the Warcry Nighthaunt box later, or simply the Chainrasps box for a pure swarm force. The Thorns of the Briar Queen is a Nighthaunt Bladeborn warband from Warhammer Underworlds Season 2. If you haven't bought the Nighthant warband box and already have the rules from Tome of Champions, or if you have some Nighthaunt already, you can buy the units separately, but for Warcry, the dedicated Nighthaunt box is the most cost-effective way.

Now, onto the components. Being an easy to build kit, you don’t get a lot of components inside. But you do get the knowledge that every part of this kit is designed to make life easier for you. Less cutting, no gluing and easy painting. Inside you’ll find: Harrowing Shriek (Triple, all Dreadscythe Harridans): A chance to prevent an enemy in range from moving or disengaging. Baneblade Brown is the “other” brown that has been my go-to for wood on the Nighaunt minis in the magazine Shyish Reaper –Casting Value 7. A predatory spell that moves 8″ (12″ in Shyish), the controlling player can pivot it before moving it and for every model it passes over, roll a die, if the die rolls higher than their save characteristic, deal 1 mortal wound. Like Aethervoid pendulum but with more control, which kind of goes against why you’d take that spell (To keep an opponent from using it on you). Don’t bother. Spectral Summon(Triple, all Leaders): Set up again any fighter taken down with as many wounds left as the value of the ability.

As you can see, I used self-printed transfers for the bases because I always had a hard time telling the models apart in Warhammer Underworlds games. The updated jade green rubble matches my Dominion of Sigmar terrain collection, for which you can find a tutorial here. Cairn Wraith - this is an old Vampire Counts model from the days of square bases in WarHammer Fantasy Battles.

If two of the dice show the same value, they can be used to activate a Double ability. If three show the same value, they can be used for a Triple ability, and so on. Most are created by Nagash or his followers, using the necromantic magics he has perfected and which the Collegiate Arcane believe he created. All such spirits suffer an ironic punishment, as the god of the dead inflicts a penance for crimes either real or perceived. So a criminal seeking escape through death may find himself in undeath still bound by spiritual chains. [3a] Immune to Rend –All of your units ignore modifiers to saves, positive or negative making high rend opposition useless. Many Character Options –This book has a lot of characters which can drastically influence your army composition.

Nighthaunt Deployment Tactics

The Nighthaunt book is pretty dry on Command traits. There aren’t a few different tables for each type of commander, it’s just one with 6. They’re pretty mediocre, so many will choose to run Lady Olynder as a General due to her special ability rather than getting a command trait, we’ll discuss what that does in her unit entry but it is pretty competitive. Much more diversity in artefacts here, 3 tables with 6 weapons, 6 relics and 3 lanterns which are exclusively used by Guardian of Souls. Weapons of the Damned Updating these models was a nice little palette cleanser and it made me like the models even more, I feel that especially the reddish-brown vines and jade ruins make the bases pop even more. The original paint job can be found here.
