About this deal

As the company's first consumer application to hit the market, the Zink-enabled Polaroid Instant Mobile Printer is only slightly bigger than an iPhone, weighs 230 grams, uses a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, and connects to a mobile phone via wireless Bluetooth or to a digital camera through a USB cable. The new Polaroid Snap camera attempts to recapture the fun of instant photography, but with a modern, digital twist. If one person's print is that same person's carbon footprint, most people seem to agree that printing remains an inalienable delight. The Canon IVY ZINK paper didn't just save my photos; it saved my life. It allowed me to relive the laughter, the tears, the joy, and the love that had colored my existence. It transformed my photography from mere snapshots into a gallery of living, breathing masterpieces.

Zink Holdings LLC is a technology company headquartered in Billerica, Massachusetts [7] (formerly Bedford, Massachusetts), [8] [9] founded in 2005. [10] It develops what it calls "ZINK Zero Ink technology" and "ZINK Paper". [10] Zink’s Research and development labs and headquarters are in Billerica, with a paper manufacturing plant in Whitsett, North Carolina [7] [10] (using staff and facilities previously used by Konica Minolta). [2] [11] [12] The advantage with Zink is that there is no need for an ink ribbon. The heat is applied directly to the paper. There are no gears, no motors, no mechanism is required to manage the ink ribbon. All the information is in the paper." Magenta Crystals = Medium Temperature (150 degrees Celsius or 302 degrees Fahrenheit) and a Medium Duration Zink paper was invented by Polaroid and became a separate company, ZINK holdings LLC , in 2005. It is the only company to produce Zink paper, but they license out the technology, allowing other brands like Polaroid, Kodak, Canon, HP, etc to sell it under their name. A Zink paper printing device uses electronically controlled thermal pulses to activate the crystals. There are hundreds of tiny heating elements that create these pulses.

So far, Zink has partnered with Polaroid and manufacturer Alps Electric to produce the Instant Mobile Printer, and with toy-maker TakaraTomy and manufacturer Foxconn for an upcoming product.

There’s quite a few things that we’d like to change about the Polaroid Snap. The ability to turn the flash off, the ability to not print if you don’t want to, or the ability to print something again, would all be great additions. Perhaps it’s something Polaroid can think about for the next iteration of the Snap. As is often the case with cameras of this ilk, you can get some reasonably nice shots if you’re using the Polaroid Snap in good light. All of the printed shots have a “lo-fi” look, but that could potentially part of the appeal and charm of such a camera.

Hey there, photography pals! I'm super excited to share my thoughts on the Canon ZINK Paper. It's been a total game-changer for me, and I can't wait to tell you all about it! First things first, the photo quality is absolutely fantastic. The colors pop, and the images come out so clear and vibrant, capturing all those precious memories in a snap. Whether it's family gatherings or scenic landscapes, this paper makes every photo look incredible. Focusing, which is again, automatic, seems to be pretty accurate too. You don’t get any confirmation of focus when using the Polaroid Snap, so you just have to point and hope for the best. If it’s slightly dark and the camera is doing a long exposure, you need to remember not to move it or you’ll end up with a blurred image. As for the Fujifilm, because it uses instant film as opposed to photo paper, there's a much different look to these prints. They're soft and almost blurry, especially in comparison to the look of the Canon and Polaroid. The color seems to lean a bit cooler as well but I found that the color reproduction on the Fujifilm prints was without a doubt the best of the three. The Fujifilm prints also have a glossier finish than the others. And the winner is... Fujifilm
