Make sure you know where the rare bird nesting areas are and plan your route to avoid them from 1 March - 31 July. You’re helping us to look after and care for the moor so that we can all enjoy it for years to come. Top Ten Tors tips Don’t disturb the birds! Located near the National Trust’s Castle Drogo in the Teign Gorge to the north of the Park, offering unbeatable views. This is a really accessible tor, and possibly one of the best walking routes on Dartmoor. With dramatic views across the gorge, to the castle and Dartmoor’s north moor, a must for a summer’s day out. We are delighted to announce that this database includes the excellent work of Tim Jenkinson, who has spent the last decade documenting the outcrops on East Dartmoor. For more on his work, visit East Dartmoor Lesser Known Tors.If you will be navigating across the high moor and want to find out more about the wild open space of Dartmoor get a copy of our Ten Tors Navigators Notes. Several pairs of ring ouzel breed around the tors of the north moor. Both ring ouzel and peregrine are rare.

Tors/walks close by – Little Mis Tor, Merrivale, situated south of Great Mis Tor, the satellite outcrop provides an easily accessible route. No one has ever tried to walk all the tors in one go before. This might be because no one’s ever agreed on how many there actually are… (see disclaimer below). Getting round all of Dartmoor’s tors by foot, self supported and wild camping. Distance 300km. What’s this about?

Demand for the Dartmoor Tors Compendium continues, making it a regular on a Dartmoor book shelf. Retail outlets for the book continue to grow; it is now available in regional book shops and National Trust shops. I will not be held liable for any damages caused, as this is just a piece of advice as to how difficult tor bagging can get. The rule of the thumb from me is to always try and view the outcrop from public land, and if this is not possible due to tree cover etc, then please respect landowners' wishes by staying away if they do not welcome visitors. I've found that being granted landowner permission to visit an outcrop is one of the most rewarding things I have achieved during this challenge.
