About this deal

Whatever you do, just start. You can always switch it up, but if you wait to find something that seems perfect, then you could end up missing years, like I did. With the one line a day journal, you can write your thoughts one day, cute things your kids said another day, or just happenings of the day. It’s short, flexible, and it’s daily. A journal is a useful way to record the significant events in your life. Over the years you can record the small daily things that are most important to you. Then each year you can compare what happened on that particular date with previous years. I also like a slight variation on this, which I learned from Shawn Blanc who uses “Highlight of the Day” as his prompt.

The point is that at the end of 3 years you will see how their answers have changed, as well as just enjoy rereading what their little brains were thinking at each age. I hope these tips can be useful to you if you want to try journaling or if you want to restart your journaling journey. I also made an in-depth video about how I journaled for 7 years and shared what I learned from it.

Stress Reduction: The act of expressing gratitude has been linked to reduced stress and a more optimistic outlook on life. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, the “Queen of All Media” built a brand that stretched far beyond the television screen. She went on to become a billionaire, a well-regarded philanthropist, and a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom. And as she was busy working toward these otherworldly accomplishments, Oprah relied on a simple habit: journaling. From 1986 to 2011, Oprah Winfrey hosted The Oprah Winfrey Show. It was the highest rated talk show of all-time and familiar to nearly anyone who owned a television set in North America at that time. Whenever I noticed these writing redundancies, I could see they were emblematic of redundancies in my life, in general. And I began to take them as a sign to switch things up and try something new, whether by taking a barre class with my sister or going to a new restaurant with a friend. These changes gave me both new things to write about in my journal and a new sense of purpose. 8. Use reflection to identify recurring patterns

Make it Manageable: On days when you’re busy or facing time constraints, give yourself permission to write an ultra-short entry. Even a single sentence can be valuable in capturing the essence of the day. To make things easy, put your journal and pen in a special place, then every day at the same time write in it.

She admitted, “But the truth is, I was busy in 1996, too. I just made gratitude a daily priority. I went through the day looking for things to be grateful for, and something always showed up.” Life is busy. Often in our day to day lives, it can be difficult to find time to stop, pause and think, especially when you add work, education, relationships, family and other commitments into the mix. As a result, setting time aside to journal isn’t easy, despite knowing it is a beneficial habit. Remember, the beauty of a “line a day” journal is its simplicity and adaptability. By implementing these practical tips, you can create a meaningful and sustainable journaling practice that enhances your self-awareness and well-being over time.
