About this deal

SID SL is an out-and-out race fork that gets 32mm stanchions, 100mm to 110mm of travel, a 44mm offset, comes for 29ers only. This fork uses the latest Race Day 2 damper. Adjustable rebound on Judy [B1] and Silver TK [A2] and Silver TK [A3], adjustable rebound and low speed compression on Gold RL [A2] and Gold RL [A3].

I opted for the 29er version with 120 mm of travel since I planned on pairing the Judy with an NS Bikes aluminum eccentric frame that’s more geared towards trail than cross country. The tapered steerer tube and boost hub spacing (both rare at this price point) along with post mounts for the disc brake and the ability to run 29 or 27.5+ tires were exactly what I was looking for. I’m not much of a weight weenie, so I don’t own a super precise scale, but the weight seemed reasonable for a 120 mm travel 29er fork. Building the fork up, there were no issues cutting the steerer tube, installing the star nut, or fitting the brake. It seems to be the reason that the chassis would need to accommodate a fork with more travel. Well, by making it larger, heavier, and stiffer.Adjustments are an absolute necessity if you want more control over your bike. It allows you to adjust your bike for different situations. The SID RL is all-new for 2018, adopting the same Charger 2 damper found in the SID RLC and World Cup models. Finance is subject to application, financial circumstances and borrowing history. This is a term for volume spacers that can be added to the fork's air spring to adjust how much progression there is - how much harder it becomes to move the fork as it goes deeper into the travel. Adding more makes the fork harder to bottom out under hard riding; having fewer means of achieving full travel for a given starting pressure is easier. The SID SL is the all-out cross-country racing fork in the lineup and in 2023, it got a range of updates. The turnkey adjustment only allows rebound dampening. You cannot adjust the travel and compression. This is set by the factory. The air presure required in your fork will vary depending on the model of fork, and the style of your bike. For DebonAir, SoloAir, and Dual Postion Air, you will determine require pressure based on the percent sag, the amount of full travel that the suspension compresses when the ride is on the bicycle in a normal riding position. The price factor can single-handedly alter the decision. It’s your budget that will contribute to the decision-making. The fork travel of Judy Gold outshines Judy Silver. The Judy gold has a variable travel rate of 80-120 mm. The Judy Silver has a fork travel rate of 120 mm which is not inconsistent. The Pike Select+ is treated to almost all the same technology as the Pike Ultimate, but misses out on the ButterCups and the machined crown. There are 150-, 160-, 170-, and 180mm travel options for both 27.5- and 29-inch wheels and the Debonair air spring system is used in the forks.

Please note: These forks have a straight 1 1/8" steerer tube and 9mm QR dropouts. Images are for illustration only. Much like the ZEB, it also boasts ButterCup technology, Pressure Relief Valves, premium SKF seals and Maxima Plush damper fluid, as well as a machined and anodised crown. Commonly made up of a spring and a damper which work together to create a smooth rider experience, a metal coil spring can be found on lower-end versions or the occasional gravity-focused fork. After installing the Judy and building up the bike, setup was about as straightforward as it gets. I pumped up the air spring to about 30% sag, dialed the compression to where it was fully open and then adjusted the rebound to the medium setting between fastest and slowest (the extremes were very fast and very sluggish, respectively, so I’m guessing I’m going to be keeping it middle of the road going forward). Compared to some of the higher end forks it doesn't seem to be quite as smooth or sensitive, but for a third of the price that’s to be expected. Designed specifically for use on dirt jump and slopestyle bikes, the Pike DJ features a custom-tuned Charger damper and Solo Air air spring designed to offer maximum progression for harsh landings and heavy compressions. Finally, the SID SL looks like another OEM fork, but this one gets a Rush XC damper with a DebonAir air spring. This fork gets the same seals and fluid as the rest of the range.
