The issue is oversized for the immense task of establishing stepping-on points for the whole of the Superman family without fully and panderingly eradicating the contemporary continuity�there�s nothing here breaking the chain of current events, no full post- Crisis retcons. There�s only a sense of open-air welcoming to this portion of the DCU, an opening of doors for we looky-loos wondering what the hell is going on on the other side of that Big Blue fence.

Even after Action Comics #1051, however, there is still one long-teased super suit that has still not officially debuted as of writing: Jon Kent's "Electric Blue" outfit. Another Mora design was unveiled at NYCC to accompany Jon's Electric Blue powers that he seemingly gets in Superman: Son of Kal-El #18, and fully displays later in Lazarus Planet: Assault on Krypton #1. Despite being shown on the cover for Assault on Krypton, Jon does not don the Electric Blue costume in the issue. It may still appear in the future, since Jon can be seen wearing it on artwork for his upcoming miniseries, Adventures of Superman: Jon Kent.

That Rebirth will be nothing compared to this, and how we're goona love it. Yeah, right. They're still going to keep hiring Marvel writers and tell us what we should want instead of hearing what we actually want. It's mostly just an excuse to release a bunch of new #1s and take the other stuff in new directions they think are cool and they'll keep using Marvel's tactics, all the while claiming they don't wish to. In short, nothing will be different than it has been. Just new #1s and "bold new directions" all while, like with Marvel, their books' main reason to exist will be to promote their movies and streaming programs. Basically just another "brilliant" move by DC's editors. It's worthy of DiDio himself. There's a bit of a Silver Age-ish quality to it, but it's also a very different vibe than say Marvel Comics. Why do you think DC has embraced family to the degree it has? And in a three-part story written by Leah Williams and drawn by Marguerite Sauvage, Power Girl will return following the events of Lazarus Planet.

All in all this book wasn't a must-read, but it wasn't a total waste either. It's the start of a new direction I'm not very impressed by, but it's better than anything I've seen in the Superman books in the last 4 years. But then that's not saying much ether. I won't recommend against getting it, but I can't recommend it to non-regular readers either. It's my first experience with Dawn of Dc, and so far I'm not impressed. If they expect reactions to it to be of a Rebirth proportion I have a feeling they'll be sorely disappointed. Because when comparing the quality of this to Rebirth, It's only tepid. Lukewarm at best. Alongside this arc, Dan Jurgens and Lee Weeks will follow young Jon Kent on the farm with his parents as he learns about his powers and battles Doombreaker in 'Lois and Clark 2: Doom Rising.' Lastly, it was announced that Superman: Son of Kal-El will end with issue #18, but fans of Jon Kent do not need to worry! Writer Tom Taylor and artist Clayton Henry will be telling new Jon Kent stories in Adventures of Superman: Jon Kent. Jon will finally get his chance to take on the man who is responsible for kidnapping and torturing him, Ultraman. The Superman of Earth-2, Val-Zod, will also play a major part in the 6-issue miniseries arriving in comic shops in March.

DC Preview: Catwoman #51

Also coming to prominence at that same press conference is the new Super Family, which includes Supergirl, Superboy (Conner Kent), the other Supermans, Jon Kent, and Kenan Kong, and new arrivals Otho and Osul, who have been dubbed the Super Twins by the media. The entire team has taken on something of a uniform look with costumes that more or less match one another in style, with the obvious exception of Clark himself, who retains his classic threads. Because of the events at the end of Warworld Apocalypse. Osul-Ra is essentially a New God now, with powers that are kind of unexplored. We don't really know what he's capable of, or what the consequences will be for this power that he now carries. Superman is going to be learning what Osul is capable of for some time, and in that regard, he's in a very similar position that his own Earth parents were in years ago. I thought that'd be really interesting to see. Speeding Bullets has a lot of ground to cover, from the status changes to the long-awaited return of John “Metallo” Corben. That last one has been slowly building for months now, bringing Corben from an angry robot body in a prison cell to a seemingly human kryptonite container, and doing so while infusing him with the kind of sympathetic pathos that makes for a complex and interesting villain. I can’t say I’ve ever had a great passion for Metallo but as it stands I’m genuinely interested in what happens to him – if there’s one thing I can say about this most recent run on Action Comics, it’s that Johnson has done a great job of taking villains I didn’t care about at all and making me respect them as forces (Mongul) or feel for them as people (Metallo). This isn’t an excuse for Metallo’s actions or his prejudices, but villain or not, I prefer a complicated character over a simpler one any day.
