About this deal

This is Sage's revamped Barista Express, with some very important differences. If you've read some of the chatter about this machine online over the past few months coming from across the pond (as it was released over there earlier than here) then you can ignore a lot of it, as most of it is wrong! So I'm not just sharing what others have said about these machines, or rehashing other people's opinions, I'm telling you the opinion I've formed based on my experience with these machines. If you're using standard baskets and freshly roasted beans, the aim is to get the grind size correct so the pressure in the basket is about 9 bars. So having the over pressure valve set to fire off if the basket pressure exceeds this, makes dialing in a bit easier. So if you're planning on using freshly roasted beans and the single walled standard baskets, the Barista Pro would be the better choice, in my humble opinion.

When I said it wasn't for everyone, though, I don't think the Barista Express is the best choice for people who're really looking for home barista experience. In my opinion the Barista Express is the most mainstream-focused Sage coffee machine with integrated grinder. When things can go wrong, however, is when people buy Sage integrated grinder espresso machines believing them to work just like their previous bean to cup machine. That's not a deal breaker, though, you just need to get into the habit of regularly emptying the drip tray. The other issue with it having such a small footprint is it does move around when you're using it, but again this is something you just get used to.If you currently have a bean to cup coffee machine, and you're replacing it because it's stopped working, then the question to ask yourself is, was there anything wrong with using a bean to cup machine, do you need to upgrade or would you be happy with another bean to cup machine? If you would, see: The Breville Infuser wins this round because it’s well-priced but comes with lots of special features. The Final Verdict

To put it simply, it’s a great water heater. With it, you get coffee that’s brewed at just the right temperature.

The three second heat-up time of other Sage machines goes for this model, too. It makes three different sized cups: 0.84, 1.35 and 3.72oz and although the display guides you through coffee recipes, you can personalise these to perfect your brew. It normally lights up when too many residual oils and grinds accumulate around the machine’s brew head. It's fairly quiet, it's fast at just about everything, it's easy to clean both outside and inside, and overall it's just a brilliant machine, at a very low price – and I actually wish they made a slightly lower cost option without the integrated grinder, with more space on top for cup storage, allowing users to pair it with a capable grinder for better ability to dial in.

This simplicity is brilliant if you just want a rich espresso with minimum input. There’s no option to automatically adjust settings such as water temperature and cup size though.

Are These Machines Cheaper Than a Cafe?

The main difference about the Barista Express impress, though, is it's an assisted machine. It's Sage's first ever assisted machine, and what this means is that you're the home barista, but unlike with the Barista Express & Barista Pro, the machine assists you in the more complex areas. If the water is too hot, the coffee can taste burnt and over-extracted. If the water is too cold, however, it can taste weak and under-extracted. If you're compar Who are they for? People who want to get more involved when they have the time, but want assistance when they're rushed, and for homes where there are people who want a more “one touch” type experience and also people who want to explore the home barista hobby. not initially diagnose the problem unless I use the sage portafilter, and that the repair would be non warranty because of it! Even though

The steam wand on the Duo can make perfectly creamy microfoam. Our professional barista tester remarked that it was easy to get similar results to what she makes in the cafe with this wand, and even beginners were able to get some really nice texture in their milk after just a few attempts. If you're looking to truly recreate a coffee shop latte at home, this steam wand is up to the task. All the machine’s brewing aspects can be controlled using the turn-knob on the front of the machine. This actually makes it a bit easier to use than the Breville Duo Temp because you don’t have tons of controls to fiddle around with. seems to be a known issue with the Barista Express and Pro models. It first took 3 days to get so much as a response, then a further If you were attracted by the Barista Pro because you thought it was in any way easier than using a traditional espresso machine with a stand alone grinder, then I think you would probably be better off with the Barista Express Impress. I do actually think that the Impress, being assisted, is what a lot of people actually think the Express and the Pro are, as many retailers list them as bean to cup machines. The LCD display of the grind settings is great, really easy to see what grind you're at. The ability to really simply re-program the volumetric shot buttons via the LCD screen is great, as is the low pressure preinfusion and the fact that you can easily pull shots manually if you prefer. When it comes to cooling down after steaming milk, the heaters are flushed with water to cool down, which sounds a bit like dropping cold water into a hot pan (I always enjoy doing that, I'll never grow up!). With the Barista Express, as it has the bigger original thermocoil, this lasts longer, a few seconds, vs a split second or so with the Barista Pro and the other thermojet machines. Now that we’ve gone over the similarities between the Breville Duo Temp Pro and the Infuser, it’s time to talk about the differences. On top of that, with the 61-oz tank, you can create at least 9 cups of espresso! If you prefer lattes, both machines enable you to make at least a dozen cups.
