About this deal

No, this is a topcoat for application as part of a system and will not achieve a level of fire protection on its own.

When it comes to colour, the current most popular options are white and grey paint for an ultra modern and clean look, ideal for frequently changing rooms. A paints finish will affect the overall appearance, feel, and durability of your paint, so it’s important to understand the differences to achieve your desired aesthetic. Matt paint has a non-reflective finish, chalk paint has a matt, shabby-chic finish, while eggshell paint is low-sheen and durable. Additionally, satinwood paint has a subtle sheen and is great for interior woodwork, while gloss paint is high-shine and ideal for exterior woodwork and metal surfaces.

Those familiar with the fire triangle will be aware that a fire needs three elements to spread; heat, oxygen and fuel. Using fire retardant paints in your home or office fights fire in two ways. It protects your surface, reducing the amount of fuel available to the fire, thus removing the third element of the fire triangle and slowing the fire spread considerably. Intumescent paints, on the other hand, swell up when they are exposed to fire. This creates an insulating coating that protects the material underneath from the flame. Fire retardant wood paint can be used on lots of distinct kinds of wood surfaces, including softwoods, hardwoods, chipboard and work well on doors, panelling, cladding, interior and exterior surfaces of industrial and domestic buildings. All our products meet British Standard requirements and are issued with a certificate of conformance (our products now also conform to most European standards too). Alternatively, if your wooden asset only needs to meet ASTM E-84 standards, you should consider a fire retardant spray or paint. Previous coatings that are blistering or unstable should be removed and a suitable stabilising or primer-sealer product used if necessary. Use Earthborn Isolating primer for dry stains and use two coats for heavy staining. Do not use on lime plaster/render as this can inhibit the breathable properties of the render. Please Note:For both internal and external use it is recommended that a sample of the substrate is coated to establish both absorption properties and possible colour change, particularly when used externally without a protective finishing coat as moisture may create a change in colour.Zeroflame Fire Retardant Treatment achieves Class 0 Fire protectionand Spread of Flame on solid timber and can be used on interior or exterior timber. Thermoguard Thermoproof Fluid works in a comparable way, working to protect porous wood, both inside and outside. Thermoguard Thermoproof Clear Sealer also protects wood from the effects of weather, damp and sun damage. You can use either a gloss finish, which not only looks great but is also easy to clean and very hardwearing. Alternatively, an acrylic eggshell paint can be used with an intumescent base coat, which will give you a subtler finish than a gloss, with all the fire protection you need. Finally, you could opt for a vinyl matt finish, although this isn’t as easy to clean and isn’t quite as hardwearing as the other paints. Brands
