About this deal

While cleaning up the broken mirror, Jason finds the warning note from earlier and decides to throw it away. Suddenly, a large, hairy, snake-like creature emerges from his wooden dresser, and the monster asks if its note was received. As the daughter of King James V of Scotland and his French queen, Mary of Guis, Mary Queen of Scots had both a legitimate claim to the Scottish and English thrones. She also enjoyed the support of Scotland’s long-time allies against the English: the French. The only problem was that the queen to the south happened to be the formidable Elizabeth I. Many refused to recognize Elizabeth’s legitimacy as queen because they didn’t think Henry VIII’s marriage to her mother, Anne Boleyn, had been valid.

She might not be called Mary, but the violent deeds of Countess Erzébet Báthory (Elizabeth Bathory when anglicanized) make her a strong contender for the figure of Bloody Mary. From her base in the now very-ruined castle of Čachtice in Slovakia, she sadistically tortured and brutally murdered anywhere between 100 and 650 young girls. Owing to the nature of our evidence, we’ll never know the exact number. If the figures are even conservatively accurate, however, this would make her the most prolific female serial killer in history. I actually felt like this story was scary, especially for kids and there were some dark moments in it. I normally don't like time travel at all, but I felt like John pulled it off. John makes writing look so easy. His characters are very good and his writing is so smooth and he sets a great tone. These books are true gems and I'm glad I am reading them all.

Locals living in Britain's 'most haunted village' say 'every home has a ghost'

The second act continues to introduce a bunch of weird stuff and things that don't make sense and completely strays away from the suspense and dark atmosphere that dominated the first half of the book. Though these contemporary gothic sculptures measure just eight and a half inches, they immediately make a big impact. Locascio's choice of translucent resin makes for a delicate appearance that also reflects their otherworldly nature. The artist's love of the macabre was perhaps born out of his classical training. While studying sculpture at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine and the Newington Cropsey Foundation, he worked with live models, skeletons, and annual cadaver dissections. a b c Caputo, Giovanni B (2010). Fans of wuxia, fantasy, martial arts, or whatever label fits, hail that movie as one of the best. Today, anyone who comes across this movie and watches it most likely watches it for that reason. That includes me.

Ghost in the Mirrorand Gentleman Ghost in the Mirrorare both available via the Della Morte & Co. store. Both sculptures are also available as glow-in-the-dark editions, which add another dimension as the lights go out. Inspired by Victorian horror literature, Michael Locascio created a set of sculptures showing ghosts emerging from a mirror. The translucent resin adds an otherworldly touch to the ghosts as they flow from one realm to the next. The artist even created incredible glow-in-the-dark versions of each sculpture.

Spine-tingling terror in UK's 'most haunted' city - 'locals strangled by ghosts and boy lost in shadows'

A fun, brisk read. I'd recently started 'curating' (sigh) my Want to Read list, which used to be the random books I came across so I wouldn't forget them ... but wouldn't I rather read more from my favourite authors? Hence this one. It turns out I hadn't read it because he'd died before completing it (and others), according to the publisher, but the able hand that finished it (or revised it or edited it) was undetectable to me. It very much felt like a Bellairs book. This is more of a 3.9/5 stars but this book didn’t qualify to meet a 4 star rating for me so I’ll settle with a 3 ⭐️ rating on here. Ends on a cliffhanger when a snake like creature with a head the size of a human comes out of the drawer of the mirror. So we've ruled out the presence of mirror monsters, but what about Bloody Mary? The origin of this particular mirror game would seem to be related to “Bloody” Mary I, who served as queen of England in the 16th century—but folklorists are unconvinced. In the ritual of today, Bloody Mary allegedly appears to individuals or groups who ritualistically invoke her name in an act of catoptromancy. This is done by repeatedly chanting her name into a mirror placed in a dimly lit or candle-lit room. The name must be uttered 13 times (or some other specified number of times). [3] The Bloody Mary apparition allegedly appears as a corpse, witch, ghost that can be friendly or evil or a demonic spirit, and is sometimes seen covered in blood (hence the name). The lore surrounding the ritual states that participants may endure the apparition screaming at them, cursing them, strangling them, stealing their soul, drinking their blood, [ citation needed] or scratching their eyes out. [4] Some variations of the ritual call Bloody Mary by a different name—"Hell Mary" and "Mary Worth" are popular examples. [3] The modern legend of Hanako-san in Japan strongly parallels the Bloody Mary mythology. [5] Phenomenon explanations [ edit ]

My copy is a digital file that's plays on a HDTV as wide screen. The dialog is Chinese. I do not speak Chinese and there are no subtitles. I have watched many of these movies without the dialog. Often it is easy to discern the story. This time it would have been impossible had I not already known the plot. Instead Elizabeth it was decided that Elizabeth be walled up in Čachtice Castle, consigned to solitary confinement in a windowless cell where she would stay for four years until her death. Her macabre story has been cited as the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel “Dracula”. And it still brings a fair bit of tourism to the area of Čachtice. Amongst the souvenirs available are bottles of “Bathory Blood” from the local winery. Ruby red, naturally. In a chapter, the protagonist's parents go to work and then he stumbles upon the garage that has been damaged. So basically, his parents went to work without looking at the garage. Na. doesn't happen. Her most famous victim was Thomas Cramner, the Archbishop of Canterbury. After his trial, Cramner renounced his faith and re-embraced Catholicism. However, Mary had a score to settle. As an advisor to her father, Cramner had been responsible for annulling Henry’s marriage to Mary’s mother, Catherine, so Henry could marry Anne Boleyn. He’d also been a passionate promoter of Protestantism under Mary’s predecessor, Edward VI. So Mary ignored the law of repentance—which should have absolved him—and condemned Cramner to the flames anyway in 1556. This illustration, taken from John Foxe’s Book of Martyrs, shows the execution of John Rogers: the first Protestant martyr of Mary I’s reign. History AnswersNot to mention, the book felt like it was building for a crazy event. I thought we were gonna get these super wild “ghost clones on steroid” characters destroying the town, or everyone turning into mutated crustaceans, or venture into a metaphor for the afterlife and have a crazy supernatural fight scene inside of the mirror.
