The novel starts with Colter Shaw disrupting an insider industrial espionage attempt by using an intricate scheme to switch a sensitive and unique electronic device with a fake. While returning to the CEO’s office, Shaw is approached by person with a Russian-like accent who gives his name as Abe Lincoln. Shaw had just spoiled his effort to obtain that electronic device. Lincoln offers a good price and keeps upping it for the device, but Shaw refuses. The second thread starts in the second chapter that portrays the very early release of Jon Merritt from the local county detention center. He is the husband to the woman, Allison Parker, who designed the electronic device. He was incarcerated for the attempted of his wife. Colter Shaw is hired by her boss to initially prevent her proto-type being stolen by a competitor and later to protect her when her violent husband is prematurely released from prison. Jon Merritt was serving a sentence for violence against Parker who testified against him and now fears he will be seeking to silence her for good in a fit of rage based on his alcohol fuelled anger.

He gives her an ultimatum to give him five hundred thousand dollars and find a list that she was not familiar with or she would not ever see the child. It is quite the conundrum as her employer is wealthy and she inadvertently has access to money. They try to meet the demands through a twisted and tangled tale. So, as her husband and a couple of trigger happy thugs go on the chase Colter is searching too, desperately hoping that he’ll get to her first. But hang on a minute… this is a Jeffery Deaver novel, so everything won’t be quite as you expect it to be. While some readers may find the complexity of the plot and the abundance of twists overwhelming at times, those who enjoy thrillers with intricate narratives will find "Hunting Time" to be a satisfying and rewarding read. The finale is a masterstroke, leaving readers stunned and eager for more. Some have reviewed it and thought it was too technical, as if the science could mask and bog down the action and thrilling adventure. Not a bit of it; engineering is the peg that holds up the story only in so much as it underpins the thinking of Alison Parker’s approach to every aspect of life. As the picture clears and comes into focus it is not always the image and preconceived ideas we once anticipated. Deaver`s reputation as a master of the corkscrewing plot is well earned... Colter Shaw seems certain to become an enduring series lead. This is book 4 in the Colter Shaw series and although I’ve read this author before I hadn’t read any of this series and this read well as a stand-alone. Shaw finds himself in Ferrington in the America Midwest in this fast paced full of thrills read. Brilliantly written with a twisty plotline, the author leading you down a road only to find it’s another clever red herring. Lightning-fast and loaded with twists, The Never Game is a thrill a minute from one of the best. Don`t miss it` Harlan Coben Jeffery Deaver was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1950. He was born from a mother who was a homemaker, and a father that worked as an advertising copywriter, which seems a bit of foreshadowing. He has one younger sister named Julie Deaver. A very interesting fact is that he actually completed his first (two chapter) book when he was as young as eleven years old. Harry Bosch and the Lincoln Lawyer team up to exonerate a woman who’s already served five years for killing her ex-husband.Masterful storytelling - The Never Game is Deaver`s most riveting, most twisty, most unputdownable novel yet` Karin Slaughter Deaver lite: a fleet, irresistible tale with just enough twists to have been imagined by someone else. Some of the books were written quite some time ago, but the precision plots remain timeless and could have been written last week. He has a charm for twists and turns in his writing style and the ability to engage and draw the reader in. Next, we will discuss just a few of his creations individually. It was a great mystery/thriller that kept me guessing until the end. Loved the characters, story and writing style. Look forward to reading more books by the author.
