About this deal

Microfiber is a synthetic fiber, usually made out of polyesters, polyamides, or blends. The grabby texture of the microfiber makes the towel more absorbent which, in turn, makes it great for swimming, traveling, exercising, any activity that makes you wet. At 70 x 37 inches, this is a large towel that provides ample coverage, whether you use it as a changing screen at the beach or as a cover-up when walking from your bedroom to a communal bathroom. There are various colors to choose from, including grass, lilac, aqua, and rich gray. All colors have statement-making stripes and hand-knotted tassels along the shorter edges. When you're not using it as a towel, this product also doubles as a scarf, sarong, picnic blanket, or throw for your living room at home. I’d give this beach towel props just for being so damn good lookin’! Look at those patterns! So bold and colorful! Who says a microfiber travel towel has to be flat-colored and boring, anways? We strongly recommend getting a large travel towel. We own several and the bigger ones are most useful. Yes. Microfiber towels can be washed and dried with ordinary washers and dryers, often having the same care requirements as cotton.

The Eco Dept towel below has the nicest feel of any that we tested. Towelling finish (micro towelling) is also available it has similar properties to microfibre but a more traditional feel. Small or Medium:Often used as a washcloth, hand towel, or to bring along for workouts. These make a great addition to your toiletry bag. Classic cotton towels are extremely absorbent and can be luxuriously soft, but they are bulky and heavy, and take a long time to dry. For surfers, swimmers and car campers, who don’t care about weight, they can still be a good option, and robes can be perfect, with some people continuing to wear them long after they’ve dried off and warmed up.Each of these beautifully soft camping and travel towels is made from 8.7 recycled plastic bottles, which are rescued from landfill and woven into the yarn, comprising 66% of the overall material used. Microfibre is a much more practical choice for multiple reasons. It has great absorption properties, dries up fast, and folds compactly. 2. Size It was the lightest and had the softest feel. It also came in a nice rectangular box which you could wrap as a gift and it came with a handy mini towel for hands, feet, or face. The towel itself is a good size and big enough to wrap around me after a shower. The fabric is 85% recycled, which is excellent, and while we found it wasn’t as absorbent as some microfiber towels made with fluffier materials, it does the job it’s designed for admirably (Sea to Summit state it soaks up three times its weight in water, but then it weighs next to nothing when dry). You can use it for both your face and body, while still taking up very little space in your luggage.

The corner attachment hoop (which opens with a clip) comes in handy if you want to hang this towel up from a branch or pole to create shade or cover, or simply to stop it dropping onto the floor. As a woman, I like a larger towel to wrap right around me from armpit to knees. I also have long hair so to wrap and contain it effectively after a shower I do need a second, notquite so large, towel. There’s no bag included with this one, but you can wrap the large elasticized hanging loop around the rolled-up towel and that keeps everything nice and tidy. The same loop is ideal for securely hanging the towel from a tree (or whatever else you have nearby) while it dries in the wind. The material mix is soft, but occassionally caught on dry skin. There is no antibacterial treatment in the fabric either, so bacteria can build up over extended periods of time if you can’t get to a washing machine, which we found resulted in the towel getting a bit stinky. These are great, as they are easier to reach for in a loaded suitcase, and you can also use them to avoid the bulk when going to the beach. Microfibre is an incredibly fine synthetic fibre which can be found in multiple products these days. A micro-fibre towel usually dries four times faster, is six times lighter, and takes up a 1/8thof the space of a similar size standard towel. The jury is out on whether cotton is a sustainable eco product in terms of water use and so on, but these won’t choke up our waterways like microfibres. The cotton towels are certainly more attractive than the microfibre towels and cost roughly the same. Cotton is a water-thirsty crop and not generally considered “green”. I don’t know what the answer is.

For the environmentally-conscious traveler, the Nomadix travel towel is about as ideal as it gets. This towel is made of 100% recycled materials – fibers from plastic bottles are processed into effective and comfortable nylon and polyester threads. These towels do not involve any sort of polymer-based microfiber yet they are still very good at what they do.Compact – A microfiber travel towel should take up as little room as possible. They should fold up smaller than a tank-top. Our microfibre towels are ideal for keeping you dry in the outdoors. Whether you're an active traveller, hiker or beach lover, you're sure to find the perfect towel for all your outdoor pursuits. Like most synthetic fabrics, you should avoid putting your microfibre towel in the washing machine at a high-heat setting: this will only melt the fibres. Also, avoid using bleach or fabric softener as the former will erode those ultra-fine fibres and the latter will cause them to clump together. Wrap up warm after an exhilarating swim with a microfibre towel from Decathlon. You’ll find a great selection in our swimming towel range featuring a wide array of different colours, sizes and styles. Whether you are looking for something distinctive that your kids won't be able to lose at the school pool or vibrant holiday designs, we're sure you'll find your fit here. With a smooth ultra-suede finish, we found it was super comfortable to lie on, didn’t collect sand and was nonabrasive on our skin when we rubbed ourselves down. But for our money it isn’t quite as absorbent as some of the more fibrous towels on the market.

We own some of these too, they are almost 20 years old and still going strong! We Tested The Following Microfibre Towels for Travel, Sport, Camping, Gym or Home Use No time to read the whole post? This is the one we chose out of all the travel towels we bought below (currently unavailable – second choice here) as seen in the photo. The finish is smooth, which means these towels are ideal for laying down on beaches and other terrain, and they won’t collect sand or grit. Treated with Polygiene, they boast permanent bacteria control, which will prevent the buildup of bad odors. The majority of the microfiber travel towels on the market today come in a soft suede finish. Some have a luxury feel, others are too stiff. Unfortunately, the world’s waters and reefs are now contaminated with microfibres. And they don’t break down. If I were buying new now I’d give serious consideration to a natural fibre or cotton travel towel like those below.

You can leave the towel securely in place and wear it kilt-style, with or without a top, leaving your hands free to grab bags, paddles, wash bags and other gear, or to enjoy an ice cream, beach beer or picnic. And when you want to peel it off there’s a fabric pull hoop, which also comes in handy for hanging the towel up to dry. The size you buy for your children will be dependent on their age and gender, a medium should be adequate for boys, larger for teenagegirls and up. We’ve all been there – stumbling around in a public place with a towel loosely wrapped around your waist, trying to change into or out of swimmers, with the threat of accidentally flashing everyone around you a constant worry. We live in the tropics and most of our travels have been tropical. We know these towels work for tropical conditions.
