For ease, we've included 40-inch TVs as well as the best 42-inch TVs and 43-inch TVs in this guide. Those gaming-specific features are complemented wonderfully well but exceptional SDR and HDR picture quality, impressive Dolby Atmos sound and the latest iteration of LG’s smart platform, webOS 22. The latter provides access to just about every streaming service imaginable and navigating the platform is a doddle using the Magic Remote. Models 50in and up benefit from LG’s evo panel technology, which increases brightness when compared with last year’s model. Sadly, the 42in and 48in options can’t take advantage of this due to the pixel density on their smaller panel, but they’re still more than bright enough to deliver stunning HDR performance.
Roku is a stable smart TV operating system that many brands use. Since it’s a widely used platform, you can expect support for a lot of apps. We've also seen increased production of 42-inch TVs in recent years, with TV brand LG bringing out 42-inch OLED TVs, like the LG OLED42C2 at the top of this guide. Testing a TV is a long and complex process because a modern TV simply does so much. Not only does it need to handle a variety of content resolutions – standard-def, 1080p, 4K and sometimes 8K – and both standard dynamic range and high dynamic range (the latter in a number of formats), all of which need to be specifically tested, it also has a sound system with various advanced settings and a full smart platform. A TV is an all-in-one device in the best sense, but that also makes it a challenging review proposition. The only flaw, and this will come as no surprise, is the sound quality, it’s rubbish just like all modern tv’s nowadays so you do need a sound bar or another sound system. We haven’t got anything too fancy just a standard Sony sound bar with no sub woofer or anything else and the sound is lovely for the place we have the TV. Most modern Wi-Fi routers have two bandwidths. Your TV is best connected to the 5 GHz bandwidth, which is wider and was meant for more intensive applications.
If there is still no sound, try using different audio outputs. If you have a soundbar or a pair of headphones, try connecting them. It may be more expensive than its LG and Samsung rivals, but the Panasonic LZ2000 is a first-rate OLED that delivers in just about every department.You don’t have to spend long in the AU7100’s company, though, to realise that a TV doesn’t have to be an extrovert to stand out from the crowd. Solid processing and a thoughtful, balanced picture that actually seems to have had some care and attention lavished on it can be more than enough. It’s not just the picture that benefits from LG’s latest processor, the sound does, too. Virtual sound channel up-mixing increases from 7.1.2 to 9.1.2, giving an even more immersive sound. Pair with an LG soundbar and the sophisticated processing splits the total sound output between TV and soundbar, for a richer, more enveloping sound. HDR10 is a static HDR format that applies the HDR values on a scene-by-scene basis (i.e. whenever the camera cuts to a new scene). Dolby Vision, on the other hand, applies this image information (called metadata) on a frame-by-frame basis. This dynamic form of HDR, when implemented properly, has the potential to improve upon the standard HDR10 presentation.

Brightness aside, the G3 delivers crisp, accurate and vivid pictures across both SDR and HDR content and a wonderful gaming experience courtesy of LG’s Game Optimizer Mode and four HDMI 2.1 ports, all of which support 4K@120Hz, VRR and ALLM. The webOS operating system is another great strength of LG TVs and is as easy to use as ever on the G3. The selection of streaming services is enormous, navigation using the Magic Remote is intuitive and the home screen is less cluttered than it was on webOS 22. Hot on the heels of LG's first 42-inch OLED TV came the 42-inch Sony A90K, which uses the same panel.Gaming performance was another plus point for the Omni QLED. It did a great job of handling graphically intense moments, with smooth motion processing and minimal delay thanks to its low 10ms input lag time. The picture quality delivered was crisp as well, thanks to Dolby Vision gaming support. However, it sadly doesn't have 4K 120Hz support, but this is not something you get in TVs at this price range anyway. Try disconnecting a device and see if your TV can connect. If the TV connects after removing a device, it means your Wi-Fi network is congested. If you are still unable to connect to the Wi-Fi, the problem is likely with the distance between the router and the TV.
