But I'm willing to overlook that issue as the book and it's plot were extraordinary and I loved Mulford's writing style! I'm glad to have come across this book as wouldn't wanna miss something as spectacular 💟 When four fae warriors enter her tavern refuge, Remy tries to flee, but her magic isn’t strong enough to stop a fae prince on a mission. The handsome Prince Hale of the Eastern Kingdom wants to stop a war with the Northern Court before his kingdom befalls the same fate as Remy’s. He needs a red witch and Remy may be the only person alive who can help him. Can she really trust Prince Hale? Can her fallen court be resurrected from the evil clutches of the Northern Court King? For the chance to save herself, her people, and help defeat the Northern King, Remy must put her faith in Hale and his companions on a dangerous quest to find lost relics.

This book is the second novel in The Five Crowns of Okrith series. It follows Ruadora Dammacus now that she is in possession of The Immortal Blade, a powerful relic of her heritage which threatens to control her more than she can control it. It is with this power and an unlikely ally that she seeks to free the blue witches from the torment caused by the Northern Court, all while battling her own demons. What a wonderful follow up to The High Mountain Court! the room filled with the sound of her wet, sniffing breaths. a weighted silence. and they’d never know truly what it meant to her, to sit there and listen to her cry. sitting there in that stillness spoke straight into the deepest parts of her soul: we’re here. we see you. we won’t let you fall.” However, as the story progresses, you can tell Remy is a pretty overpowered character, with a good layer of plot armor, and she's a bit of a drama queen. It made no sense to me why she would use her magic to send a pine tree in someone's face using telekinesis. In fact, she could have used that power to send that someone miles away from her. It also amazed me she could summon such power when she's clearly been hiding for years. She doesn't even seem to practice her "Red magic" very often. Remy didn't even have a mentor in that regard. Her guardian, Heather, is a Brown witch who doesn't possess the same type of magic as Remy. The tension and slow burn of their relationship also had me losing my mind. I couldn’t stop reading; I just needed them to fall in love. But the buildup—and the peak—is truly worth the wait.Briata (Bri) Catullus has been one of my favorite characters in the whole series and finding out the third book would focus on her was a great moment. The Western Queen has been murdered, and Briata, a fae warrior, has been called to come home and help protect the Western Princess. However, she arrives to find that distrust and anger is still held against her for a prophecy saying she’ll seize the crown from the sovereign. Bri has no interest in it, and just wishes to stop the witch hunters before they kill again. Hale is 🔥🔥🔥sexy, arrogant as well as deeply loyal. I really enjoyed seeing the character development for both of them as the story progressed. When four fae warriors enter her tavern refuge, Remy tries to flee, but her magic isn't strong enough to stop a fae prince on a mission. The handsome Prince Hale of the Eastern Kingdom wants to stop a war with the Northern Court before his kingdom befalls the same fate as Remy's.

This book focuses on one of the famed Golden Eagles, Briata Cattulus. After receiving a plea of help from her friend Delta in the Western Court, Bri races to their aid.The magic system was thought out and the world building was balanced but I was definitely wishing this had more and I hope we get to see more in depth looks into both in the next book. I'm also hoping very much the author will go into some genealogy with relation to certain powers to answer questions I'm sure many others had.

As to the world we are in, there are different kinds of witches – Brown, Green, Blue, Red, and the mysterious Purple wishes who are thought extinct. Brown witches heal, Green witches often work with herbs, etc., to cook amazing foods, Blue witches have visions and can see the future, and Red witches have almost a telekinesis power. The red witches have been hunted for years because of previous politics, and court intrigue (see “The High Mountain Court”), but this practice is finally coming to end – much to the witch hunter’s anger. The magic system within the novels is well thought out, and we slowly discover pieces of it in each book. For each court, as we are placed within that world, we get to see more of a certain kind of witch and how they practice. The thrilling TikTok sensation from A.K. Mulford – full of romance, intrigue, magic, and passion, the first book of the Five Crowns of Okrith series begins the journey of the fugitive red witch Remy as she fights to reclaim her kingdom and discover what’s inside her heart. I don't think a little gore and a low level of "spice" are what makes a book a New Adult novel instead of YA. New Adult books should begin blurring the lines between good and evil in terms of morals. In the text, you never get the impression that the characters walk that line. They're all standard main characters trying to save their world from an "enormous" threat, and no side plot implies that there could be more to it. This is also probably why it took me well over a month to finish this book, although I started reading it way before its release date.A somehow-super-powerful girl who turns out to not only be fae glamoured as human but is also the lost heir to a whole kingdom She now lives in New Zealand with her husband and two young human primates, creating lovable fantasy characters and making ridiculous Tiktoks (@akmulfordauthor). Never let anyone else tell you who you are, Remy, even me. No one decides how bright you shine but you.”

Princess Abalina Thorne (Lina) is still grieving her mother, and knowing Bri’s abilities, she allows her to serve as one of her guards. As witch hunters continue to wreak havoc, Bri and Lina must work together to figure out the plot against them. While Bri is trying to concentrate on keeping the Princess safe, Lina is realizing that she is one of the few people she can trust – and they both start to lose their hearts to one another. Can they discover who is trying to kill the Princess, and quell the rebellion, without falling for each other in the process? The love story, of course, is one of my favorite aspects of the novel. I love a good romance, and this one is beyond fabulous. Remy and Hale have amazing chemistry from their very first meeting, and I enjoyed their growth as individuals and as a couple. They are so strong apart, but even stronger together, and their banter is fantastic. Their every encounter is filled with chemistry, equally sweet and steamy, and I so rooted for them to admit their feelings for each other. Of course, with so many obstacles standing in their way, their road to happiness is complex.the plotline is predictable and slow paced. the big reveal can be seen from early on if you've read the books I mentioned before. Again. Not creative.
