For younger readers this does have mentions of murder, drowning, monsters, and kidnapping, but I found it thrilling to the story. The world is creative with flavours of Eastern Europe, described in smooth and easy storytelling to understand. I can't highlight how much I love seeing Chris Riddell's illustrations, they are so beautiful and really captures the characters and scenes that Francesca has created, although I wish there were more sprinkled throughout, but then again I'm just a big fan of his work.
