Description

Does battling with a mix of powerful psykers, lightning-fast warriors, and esoteric wargear sound like your favoured way of waging war? If so, then Combat Patrol: Aeldari is for you. This boxed set provides you with all the units you need to get started, or to reinforce an existing army of Aeldari or Ynnari. The contents of this set have been specifically chosen to provide you with an ideal Aeldari force for Combat Patrol-sized games – approximately 25 Power Level's worth of models, which can be built in a variety of ways – and will also save you money compared to buying the contents individually. Towering over its allies, the Wraithlord is both unstoppable force and immovable object. These powerful wraithbone constructs can be configured for ranged or melee combat, plugging gaps in your battleline and hitting the enemy where it hurts most.

On top of that, you’ll get all you need to run more diverse armies than ever before, with combined hosts of Asuryani, Ynnari, and Harlequins. The Aeldari have always been a multifaceted race, but now they’re bringing their full strength to bear and you can demonstrate that on the tabletop like never before. I’d consider having some fun and getting some more of the specialist units like Fire Dragons, Swooping Hawks or Dire Avengers. But really, you need to probably lean into the speed of this list. Perhaps drop the Wraithlord and think about more bikes or things like Swooping Hawks etc.

As fate would have it, I fell foul of a Deadly Demise yet again – explosions of every ilk seem to be my nemesis on Battle Report ! That being said, my Wraithlord did survive one that would’ve otherwise destroyed it, as it had been reduced to 1 Wound remaining at the time, so I can’t really complain. What’s Good and Bad about this Box? The Aeldari Combat Patrol box offers a robust start to your Aeldari force. The units complement each other beautifully, with the Farseer’s psychic might enhancing the capabilities of the Guardians and Windriders. The Wraithlord, while not as nimble, adds much-needed toughness and heavy firepower to the army.

Personally, I wouldn’t recommend this army to a brand new player. I’m not going to lie: this list is going to be fighting an uphill battle. Until you get the hang of positioning and how to really dissect an opponent’s army it’s gonna be rough. But it’s thematic and rewarding to play! If you’re up for a challenge then have at it! Second, the Combat Patrol versions of each faction’s datasheets army rules are different from their main Index. Datasheets are simpler, and armies have access to different Stratagems, and enhancements. Simon: Ha! Well, we had a number of key moments where the result of a single dice roll would’ve changed the outcome of the battle. That’s one of the things I love most about playing smaller-scale games like Combat Patrol – or skirmish games such as Kill Team, Warcry, or the Middle-earth™ Strategy Battle Game, for that matter – as every blow or shot fired often has a far greater impact on the result than in larger battles. Speed and precision are the name of the game, as most Aeldari units – from Aspect Warriors to Fire Prisms – can move fast and hit hard, but can’t weather much return fire. Aeldari armies are highly mobile, a specialised scalpel that can bring down a much more powerful opponent by careful application of incredible force.

A few forward-thinking groups of Aeldari managed to avoid the Fall, building vast spaceships called Craftworlds and escaping their increasingly debased kin. Known as the Asuryani, these refugees have lived a precarious existence in the millennia since the coming of Slaanesh, preserving a more austere way of life and guarding against another calamity. How does the Aeldari Army Play? The Aeldari are essentially a precision force, known for their psychic capabilities, incredible speed, and agility. While they may seem fragile – akin to a ‘glass cannon’, they boast potent tank units like Wraith Constructs. The true strength of this army lies in its characters and their psychic might, combined with the speed and hit-and-run tactics of units like Windriders and Warp Spiders.
