Underneath the robot lawn mower is a knife disk holding three razor blade knives. They are hiding under a cover plate and are mostly only visible when the disk spins. This is great because robots that keep their razor blades uncovered usually gather a lot of grass around the screws which mess up the movement of the blades.
The Automower 415X has a big red stop button on the top. That button also opens a hatch covering the display and the buttons to navigate the user interface on said display. There is no knob for the cutting height adjustment since that is programmed electronically. The new intelligent mapping feature is available to both the brand new 2022 version of Husqvarna Automower 415X and to last year’s version. The firmware version ends with 5.20 and is pushed out to all 415X owners during march and april 2022. You can read more about this feature and how to install it here. On the underside of the 415X are its cutting blades: these are essentially three razor blades that spin around on a large metal disk. The blades are designed to last 3-4 months, depending on how often you mow your lawn. Husqvarna Automower 415x review: Installation Automower® 415X is a grey-coloured robotic mower with a four wheel platform, designed for medium-sized lawns around 1500 m 2 with some slopes up to 40%. It has automatic passage handling and triple search function which facilitates navigation through complex areas, too. Automower® 415X replaces a medium to large pedestrian lawnmower.Automower®requires its charging station to be installed nearby an electricity power source, but the machine itself is battery-powered. If you have a somewhat complex lawn you will want a robot lawn mower that is reliable, and this one sure is. Step 3: Locate the four screws holding the collision pillars, as shown in the image. No Installation Kit. Suitable for users who are looking to replace an existing Automower, or wish to buy separately. Since we have multiple test lawns we set the GPS option on. It means the AI and the mower work together to identify remote areas and make sure each part of the lawn is cut often enough. But since AIM is available now you can also draw different zones on the map (more about this a bit further down in this review), or you can simply use starting points to send the robot directly to the remote part of the lawn a certain percentage of the starts. The Husqvarna 400 series are the premium robot lawn mowers. They have a somewhat different design, like LED lights and such, but also come with full mobile connectivity and a huge set of features (like intelligent mapping, electronic cutting height adjustment, geofence etc). This series consist of Husqvarna Automower 405X, Automower 415X, Automower 430X, Automower 435X AWD, Automower 450X. Programming & features– What features is it equipped with? Are they any good? How easy is it to program?We are currently still evaluating the AIM functionality so we will update this review as soon as we feel we’ve gathered more data. So far we have a good understanding of the basic functionality. We have programmed two different cutting zones and one “no go zone”. Quietness The Husqvarna Automower 415x is virtually silent, which is a big plus if you have hyperacusis (a condition when everyday sounds seem louder than they should), and it could easily run overnight without disturbing the neighbors. The aforementioned application can be used to access the exact GPS location of the robot mower, giving you piece of mind wherever you are in the world.Automower® 415X includes an anti-theft alarm that will sound whenever it is carried away, requiring your unique PIN to deactivate it. IfAutomower® is lifted off the ground or tips over, the blades – which are located in the middle of the machine, far from the edge of the mower – will automatically stop. You can do the same adjustments to the settings, schedule etc via the display. It has great readability and a user friendly interface. We do however recommend the app since it’s a lot more handy and you also get remote software updates through it. Terrainability and performance
The Automower 300 series is their standard models. They only have a bluetooth connection (you can buy an additional module for LTE connectivity), are recommended for medium sized lawns and don’t have the premium design with LED lights and such. Right now this series consists of Husqvarna Automower 310 (2021), Automower 310 Mark II (2022), Automower 315 (2021) and Automower 315 Mark II (2022). In the app you simply press schedule and create time slots for the different days of the week. You can have multiple slots with different time spans and multiple days attached to each slot. It would dig a small rut in my yard, and then send me a notice to the Husqvarna smartphone app that it needed help. I found I needed to make some adjustments in the app and to the boundary wire so it wouldn’t get caught in the same spots. There are settings such as how far you want the robot to travel over the boundary wire before turning around, which is important since you want the edges to be mowed too. There is sadly no edge cutting option, but the “drive past wire” feature will mow the edge anyway so it’s not really a problem. Inside the robot lawn mower is a sim card so that you can operate your 415X remotely. Installation processShe currently lives in Devon with her husband and two children, and recently renovated and extended the house. The property was previously a commercial nursery and boasts a half-acre plot, giving her plenty of space to road test the latest lawn mowers, hot tubs and garden tools. Included with the 415X is a 1,300-foot spool of wire and a bunch of small plastic stakes. Installing this boundary wire is the most time-consuming aspect of the entire process, as you have to work your way around your yard, pounding in the stakes every foot or so. (You’ll also likely have to adjust the wire later depending on how the robot lawnmower reacts when it encounters objects near the wire.) Use a damp cloth and, if necessary, a mild soap solution to clean the surface of the charging station. If you have a NERA model, you can use running water to clean the charging station. Despite following the guidance on wire placement to the letter, or rather centimeter, the Husqvarna Automower 415x managed to break out on several occasions. Each time sending a text to alert us of its errant behavior. Its main escape route was at the bottom of the mildly sloping lawn, but only if approaching the wire head-on; at an angle it was fine.

Step-by-step instructions Success around the edges of the lawn has been a bit hit and miss, particularly after we had to reduce the boundary line settings to stop escape-artist tendencies. However, we have to strim the path edges and around the tree when mowing with our regular Ride On, so life hasn’t changed on that score. Perhaps Husqvarna could invent a robot edge-strimmer next?Step 2: Remove the chassis. You do this by pulling the chassis upwards with one hand while keeping the Automower in place with your other hand. The connectivity also means you can control this robot lawn mower from your smart speaker or your Apple Watch. It even has support for IFTTT so you can include it in your advanced smart home installation – if you want to. Looking at the 415X it looks compact and stealthy while at the same time being light-weight and sturdy. Its smaller than 430X, and IPX5 so you can wash it with your garden hose. We really feel the design is appealing. You also find a dedicated power switch meant to be used when you do maintenance work on the robot or when you store it during the offseason.
