If you already cook with charcoal and would like to ramp up the smoking side of your barbecue game, this unit probably makes more sense for you than a pellet grill since you’ve got the charcoal handy. Our longest burning briquette is the heat bead, these have lots of stamina but can be hard to light, so we recommend you add some charcoal to them. Will the Masterbuilt Gravity Series give me a good smoke profile? Masterbuilt warrants the metal parts of the Masterbuilt Gravity Series 1050 for up to 5 years and provides 3 years of coverage for the rest of the components. Conclusion This review is a hands-on look at the Masterbuilt Gravity Series from unboxing to assembly and first use, and my assessment of who it’s best for and if it’s worth owning. PFOA stands for Perfluorooctanoic acid, while PTFE stands for Polytetrafluoroethylene. So, what does this mean? The absence of both these chemicals means that this is a safe and healthy cookware option.

Place one or two firelighters in the purpose-made slot in the charcoal grate above the ash bin and light it. These baffle plates mean that you’ll be able to reuse the charcoal in your hopper for your next cook. Even the briquettes or lump that were lit at the time you shut off the supply of oxygen will cook down and be ready to use the next time you’re ready to fire it up. Cleaning: Baking and roasting isn’t out of the question either, and with the cooking temperature being controlled by a digital control panel, the sky’s the limit. Temperature Range: You’ll also need to keep the measurements of the grill in mind. Use a measuring tape to map out spaces you can fit it in. The worst decision you can make is buying a grill/smoker that’s too big, mainly if you don’t have a lot of space in your house to place it. This model measures around 52.2 by 61.0 by 33.1 inches. 6. Warranty NOTE: You MUST insert the two air intake slides when shutting down, and failure to do so will mean the fire continues to burn, and without the controller and fan running may lead to damaging the grill. So never forget this step. Temperature Control and Accuracy The built in lid thermometer is more for decoration than serving a purpose, as the controller shows the temperature accurately.

Can you cook low and slow on a Masterbuilt Gravity Series?

Assembling the gravity series 560 will take between 1 1/2 hours to 2 1/2 hours. We wouldn’t call this assembly process easy, but as long as you have a bit of patience, everything goes together quite nicely. Ease of Use: DIGITALFAN CONTROL With the push of a button, the digitally controlled fan moves air flow from the hopper to the cooking chamber and maintains desired cooking temperature. You can use these surfaces to prepare the meat before grilling or as a resting surface afterward. The surface is easy to wipe and clean, so you won’t leave any marks. These retractable surfaces in the design show how every part of the model is optimized to cater to the user’s needs. 2. Meat-probe thermometer

Forget manually adjusting the coals to get your grill to the right temperature – easily adjust the SteadyTemp™ dial to maintain desired temperature for up to 4 hours. The middle level is approximately 12 inches deep, while the top level measures around 8 inches deep. Food Capacity: The Gravity Series of grills provide choices in size, cooking area, and function, although all models offer both grilling and smoking capabilities. The middle size also offers the convenience of a griddle function.

What’s the recommended fuel for a Gravity series?

I have to remember that I have the 1050 model, though, the largest one available and that the 800 and 560 models are simply bound to be far more fuel-efficient due to their smaller size. One of the biggest bugbears of charcoal grills and smokers, in general, is that you must learn fire control. You typically need to know how to light a good charcoal fire, what size to make it, and how to control airflow via vents to hit and then stay at a stable cooking temperature. Not so with this unit.

First of all, it would occasionally disconnect, forcing me to close the app completely, then reconnect. I’ve found this same issue with a few manufacturers’ smartphone apps, though, so it’s not uncommon. (I wonder why this is?) You can control both temperature and cook time from Wifi and bluetooth, which means that you can control everything you need on the grill even when you’re down the street partying it up with the neighbors or at a soccer game hours before dinner. The Masterbuilt Gravity Series 1050 Grill and Smoker comes with a one year warranty. It does not have a professional warranty. This design is suited for home use, not commercial use. That said, the grill and appliances last a long time. Once you have everything set up, it won’t need a lot of upkeep and maintenance. When the hopper lid or door are open embedded safety features immediately stop the fan plus the lid switch monitors the grill to maintain the correct cooking temperature they are open. Now restart the grill (turn the controller off and on again, and make sure the temp you desire is still set.)I’m sure the smaller 800 and 560 models would take less time than this, as they have smaller cooking chambers to heat up. Low convection BBQs like ceramic kamados or kettles are very hard to get the classic southern Texas-style cuts of meat to cook correctly. The Masterbuilt excels in this and many other departments; convection is always key! This is perfectly acceptable, and you cannot expect any better with a live charcoal fire. This will not negatively affect your cook and is certainly above average stability for a charcoal smoker and grill. This Masterbuilt Gravity Feed charcoal smoker measures 52″ tall, 54″ wide, and 24 1/2″ deep. The unit weighs just a hair under 147lbs. Cooking Space: From grilling up the perfect steaks and traditional barbecue for the entire family, to living the dream and recreating that smokehouse flavour we all desire.
